Hover Domain Registrar Review 2025: Pros and Cons
Domain registrar Hover
Hover works solely as a domain registrar and does not bombard you with offers to buy anything else! That means you'll have to use a different hosting provider to host your websites.

Possible to buy a domain being used for Hover's Realnames product?
They have ~35k domains associated with the service, it seems unlikely that they have been able to sell an email address for every domain, they're probably concentrated on a small number of domains. If a domain already has an email address associated with it, then it seems almost impossible to imagine Hover selling it because their customers are paying for it (although perhaps they wouldn't mind disappointing a customer for millions of dollars). If they sell domains out from under their customers, it would irreparably harm the service's reputation. So, if the domain has no email addresses associated with it, sure, selling it seems plausible. If the domain has email addresses associated with it, no chance. Looking on reddit, there's this thread where people have reported being able to buy domains for $25k+. If you can afford $25k, make an offer, and hope the domain isn't in use :) More on reddit.com
Hover Vs …
Hover is a Tucows reseller. So if you ever have any issues with your domain name, then Tucows is absolutely the best when it comes to getting help with domain issues. I personally have some of my most valuable domains at Hover. I run a stolen domain name recovery service and can tell you that if your domain is ever stolen or you have issues, then you’ll be glad that you have Tucows behind Hover. More on reddit.com
Weird things with hover.com
Ken from Hover here. Contact our support team and I bet we can clear this up. Domain Agents isn't owned by Hover or Tucows. We partner with them to help people contact current domain owners to see if they're interested in selling them. You would have got the same message if you'd searched for reddit.com. :) Based on what you saw at the site it SOUNDS like it won't be a problem to get it back. I'm guessing it expired less than 40 days ago which makes it easy to fix. Letting a domain expire IS NOT a good way to transfer a domain to someone else. There is a very real chance it will be picked up by an unrelated third party, even if the domain seems obscure. Work with your domain registrar (us in this case) to transfer ownership or change the billing information. Assuming the domain expired less than 40 days ago we'll be able to get it back and set it up so your relative gets the domain (or just pays for it). This is good feedback as we just added the Domain Agents link a few days ago and others might run into the same confusion. Hope that helps! More on reddit.com

Hover Domains Review - Should This Be Your Next Go-to Domain Registrar?
June 12, 2022 - Well, that depends on what the critical factor is for you when registering a domain name: If you’re an advanced user and you’re not intimidated by all of the technical setup that can be involved when working with certain registrars, then simply buy from the company that sells your desired TLD at the lowest price. But, with that said, if what you want is either a .shop or .design, those will still probably be the cheapest with Hover (price for the initial registration period).

I regret transferring my domains to Hover | Ctrl blog
September 26, 2017 - I went through an emotional roller coaster when transferring my domain names to Hover. I felt everything from distrustful, uncertain, annoyed, frustrated, and most of all disappointed. I soon had to add anger to that list after learning that Hover’s renewal prices for .com is 15.4 % higher than their already expensive domain prices.

r/selfhosted on Reddit: Price of com domain doubled.. is it my domain register or the authority itself ?
October 23, 2024 -
For my com domains I was paying, VAT included (France/Gandi):
- 18.61€ in 2022
- 23.99€ in 2023
- 38.38€ today
Ok the inflation, but this is crazy.....
I tried googling, but unsuccessfully. Is this my domain provided became crazy or is it something due to some sudden increase in domain fees asked by the authority managing the com domain (but I saw that net and org prices also jumped) ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gandi In February 2023, Gandi was acquired by Total Webhosting Solutions, forming a new brand, Your.Online. In June, the company announced drastic price increases, including a new monthly fee for mailboxes previously included for free. I think that explains why they hiked their prices, move away from Gandi if you want to pay a reasonable price. They count on people not knowing better.
