March 24, 2023 - A bit of delving today and I have come across what appear to be a new setting in Samsung settings to control messaging short codes with it by default being to set to Block as it cannot determine if the short code is to a premium rate service or not. I have now set it to Ask (can be set to Allow) and can now set Allow or Block by number. I was actually trying to text my service provider about upgrading my package so a shame the Samsung update was not able to recognise that on installation.

I am hoping someone can shed some light on this.

I just signed up for T-Mobile a few days ago and now I cannot receive Short Code SMS from important entities like my banks and email providers for secure login authentication (2FA, etc.). I also haven't been able to get test calls/callbacks from places like a 3rd party voice mail provider, or Amazon customer support. I have been on the phone with them for days trying to fix the issue, these are the steps they've tried and I still cannot receive these SMS's or test calls:

-Refreshed my connection to their towers

-Reset Network Settings on my phone

-Toggled Airplane Mode

-Updated OS and got new Carrier settings/version pushed.

-Switched from Automatic Cellular Network to specifically choosing T-Mobile on my phone

-Turned off WiFi Calling

-Verified on their end that Short Code SMS is UNBLOCKED

-sent test messages of their own, which I received because it's...T-Mobile...🙄

I am using an iPhone so we do not have an option to block or unblock short codes, unlike Android devices. So that is a moot point.

I am on a MAGENTA series plan, this is not a prepaid or T-Mobile ONE plan, as I know those have issues with short codes as well.

If anyone can help, that would be amazing. Thank you so much

I just had someone fix this on my line a couple of days ago. Just send a text message to 611 and when they answer they will fix it. they have to allow the feature on their end. mine was turned off for some reason and they turned it back on and short codes work now.

Try turning off VoLTE. I had the same issue on my iPhone for a bit. Go to Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Options, Voice & Data, and toggle off VoLTE

It works from any other SMS apps, but not from Google Messages. Looks like Google Messages is appending the country code or something. Looks like a bug.
