I'd like to confirm that there is nothing anyone can do to temporarily shut down whatsapp from receiving messages before I uninstall it from my phone permanently. I've researched and tried everything to temporarily stop or pause WhatsApp for a couple of days so that messages do not get delivered to my phone.

I've tried everything from firewalls (which don't work because messages apparently get delivered anyway), stopping the app (doesn't stop the receipt of messages in the background), removing from the phone and using WhatsApp web only (which apparently requires the phone installation for it to operate) and any battery / power controls to turn off background usage too. Nothing at all will stop this WhatsApp beast from running an taking some time away.

I'm fully convinced this is intentional by Meta and Facebook to prevent users from not being interactive. They certainly know about it and numerous messages are posted. It's why I removed Facebook Messenger and Instagram, which overrode Android settings.

Shutting off all permissions for whatsapp, google services, stopping them, will temporarily stop messages for a few minutes and cause other issues (like gmail app having issues.) But within 10-15 minutes all messages were delivered. The only way to get WhatsApp to pause is to remove it from the phone.
