Once Tag Assistant Companion flags your session as a debug session, the DebugView tab inside GA4 will light up with real-time events. The Tag Assistant extension includes a side panel that allows you to see and check all the tags firing on your page. The “Troubleshoot” button activates our debug mode using tagassistant.google.com. Sign in to your Google Tag Manager account. Select the container for the website you want to work on. From the workspace, click the Preview button in the top-right corner. This will open Tag Assistant in preview mode, allowing you to test your tags without affecting the live version of your website.

The Troubleshoot tag button opens a Tag Assistant tab that shows the current user journey and enables a more in depth investigation. When you click Troubleshoot tag, a new tab will open where you will see the default "Summary" view with an overview of events and tag information for the requested page. If multiple Google tags or Tag Manager containers are detected, select one to see all hits for that specific Google tag or container.
