I saw a sample swatch of the fabric at IKEA and the small sample didn’t look blue, so we pulled the trigger. Sure enough, in a larger scale and with natural lighting, our couch was indeed a navy blue, which did not at all go with the rest of the aesthetic in our room. I also found the weave of the fabric would catch and hang into dog hair, and it wasn’t the easiest to spot treat. I wouldn’t recommend, unless you don’t mind a blue hue & don’t have pets. The gunnared grey was the fabric on the couch in the ikea showroom, it was a lot softer and didn’t have a weave that hairs could get stuck in. That would be my preference of the two. I kept the couch but took the covers back, and I ended up having aftermarket covers made. I’m so thrilled with them, it elevated the sofa so much making it look and feel very luxe. I think I’m planning to replace my dearly departed Nockeby couch with a Finnala sleeper sofa. I’m trying to figure out if I should get the Finnala in Tallmyra gray/black fabric, or if I should choose Gunnared medium gray. My considerations beyond aesthetics are:
-
durability over time with cats and kids
-
stain hiding
-
any difference in structure for the cushions
-
tendency to fade in sunlight
My last couch had Tallmyra fabric in rust, and I give it like a B/B-. It was extremely soft and comfortable, but it didn’t do anything to keep the cushions from getting saggy, and it faded a lot from sun in 6 years. It was OK at hiding stains but not perfect, especially after it faded. I like the fact that Gunnared is a tighter weave so it might retain more structure, and it would look better with my decor - but I’m worried it will show stains and/or cat scratches worse, or if it would be as durable since it’s so much thinner, and I don’t know if it will fade too.
Please let me know your advice, and if you have experience with these fabrics or this couch! Thanks!

Gunnared gripped our dog’s hair like it actively sought it out and wove it into itself. Maddening. We never could get the cushion covers to look nice, even with multiple attempts at adjustment. Ended up returning Finnala.

We have gunnared. No issues with dog/cat hair. Cat occasionally scratches it, but fabric is very durable. No visible stains (we also have a baby)...
