Intel Boot Agent runs during boot. How to disable?
I had an old Thinkpad work laptop that nobody ever asked for back. Installed Linux mint and had a similar issue with the Intel Boot Agent. There were a lot of menus but none of them seemed to do anything until i hit F1 upon turning on my computer. Then a brand new menu appeared. I had some sort of bios thing set to Legacy. I set it to Both (UEFI and legacy), set some boot option to point to my SSD instead of PXE, and then saved and quit. After that it booted into Linux Mint smoothly. More on reddit.com

March 11, 2023 - Now, I have seen cases where something fails and the latch will not clear from BIOS. I created a tool (a long time ago) that I could send you that you could use to try and clear this up. It is a 16-bit DOS tool, so you would need to boot MSDOS (or PCDOS or FreeDOS) from a floppy or USB flash drive and then run the tool.

r/thinkpad on Reddit: [Help] Can't access BIOS setup menu (stuck at Intel Boot Agent)
June 25, 2018 -

I'm unable to access the BIOS setup menu of the X230 I just bought, I am stuck in this "Intel Boot Agent" menu. I've been trying different combinations but I always end up in the same menu.

The F12 option from the Interrupt Menu takes me to the same "Press Ctrl+S to enter menu" prompt, where if I press Ctrl+S it takes me to the Intel Boot Menu. If I don't press anything it just hangs.

r/thinkpad on Reddit: Intel Boot Agent runs during boot. How to disable?
October 25, 2023 -

On mine "more used" ThinkPad when I boot "Intel boot agent" starts with output of cable failure something. Web search shows it is for network boot and:

To prevent the Intel Boot Agent (IBA) from executing:

Go into the BIOS and find the order settings for the boot devices.

Move the boot agent down the list after the hard drive or the device you prefer to boot from.

The boot order has USBs all over at the start, however even when USB Stick is inserted, I see "Intel Boot Agent" working for several seconds and then boot menu where I have to select "USB HDD", which is 1st in the boot list!

Any way to fix that? I don't use network boot. TIA

r/intelnuc on Reddit: Intel nuc works fine but refuse to show boot sequence to access bios
October 29, 2024 -

As the title suggests, I'm trying to access the BIOS to modify the fan profile. Unfortunately, it's a bit tricky... The method only works when unplugging the entire system, waiting a bit, and then plugging it back in, which then displays the "Intel NUC" logo. I need to be quick to press the F2 key during this boot sequence, as normally, pressing it during start-up or restart doesn't bring me to the Bios... and just turns the HDMI on and off during what seems to be the boot sequence, and immediately shows the Windows login. Even restarting via settings or the command prompt doesn't help, fast boot is off in Bios
