r/videography on Reddit: How do u get started with just an iPhone 13 Pro
January 6, 2024 -

Hi there, I’ve been interested in making day in the life videos. This is just for fun and so I can document my life. I only have an iPhone and can’t afford an additional camera. I also love to cook and workout and want to record my meals, cooking and workouts. Where do I begin as an absolute beginner. I’m also not a creative person, like at all so I struggle with coming up with ideas.

Would appreciate starter advice on

  1. How to record videos

  2. How to edit videos With a focus on clean aesthetic.

Hi Bill, · I did find a guide on a Spanish site; it's got an option for the English language, but it didn't seem to work well until I allowed Chrome to autotranslate, and after that it seemed to be usable. · Manuals / Apple iPhone 13 / Front cameras · I can't be sure about the iPhone 13, but on the 11 Pro at least, you can replace just the camera without losing Face ID. It involves taking a Dremel to the metal housing and digging out the camera, leaving the dot projector and IR camera in place. You can get the general idea from viewing the iPhone 11 Pro guide that I helped out on. · iPhone 11 Pro Front Camera Replacement Without Losing Face ID - iFixit Repair Guide · I was looking at the same situation on an iPhone X and was able to find a site that sold just the camera alone without the rest of the front camera assembly, along with a replacement metal bracket that could be used if you decide to just destroy the old one in the process of disassembling it. Turned out to be the IR camera that was causing the problems so I didn't end up doing the repair, but same logic applies; use your specific guide to get the camera out, then use the same technique to remove the camera from the assembly. · Good luck; let us know how it goes! Take pictures; it would be great if you authored a new guide to that replacement for all the other people who are going to run into the same problem. It's actually pretty easy to do, and there's plenty of people, myself included, who will be happy to help you with it.

I want to learn how to take great photos with my IPhone 13 pro Max
13 pro max user here. Have used a lot of phones with the 13 pro max being the current one. You can also check out my profile for more photos I took. Some tips I can give you for better results are: (They don't apply only to the 13 pro max) Avoid shooting with lighting behind the subject. Avoid taking photos when light is too strong or when sun is right above your head, it will create unflattering shadows. You can shoot whenever you want on cloudy/overcast days though. The clouds act like a soft box so your photos look better. Try stepping back and shooting with the 3x lens when shooting portraits of people. The 77mm equivalent is less distorting when it comes to human proportions and therefore you'll have a more professional photo. (my latest photos were taken like this) Don't overcrowd your photos. Find something that leads the eye, be it a subject or an inanimate object. Don't over process photos if you choose to edit them. Less is more here. You can also dm me for more details if you want 👏 More on reddit.com

What are some essential camera tips/tricks on the Iphone 13 for beginners that make a lot of difference in photo/video shots?
That 3×3 grid that appears on the camera screen? That’s there to assist with composition. Align the subject of your photos with the lines or intersection points. (e.g. Position someone’s face at one of the grid intersection points.) Look up “rule of thirds composition” for more insight on this technique. Be aware of lighting position. Don’t backlight your subject, but also don’t have people looking directly at the sun, unless you want a lot of photos of people squinting. Try to take photos of people in indirect light if you can, so you don’t get harsh shadows. More on reddit.com

I recently moved to iPhone. Based on my experience it is all about the right settings such as exposure, lens(.5x 1x, and 3x), and Grid(for placing the subject on the right side of the viewfinder). Phone produces great pics on proper lighting conditions(that’s why I realized). Also, editing plays a vital role in the look and feel of your photos. To wrap up, I would suggest you to learn about the camera settings first. You know where to find them I watched the following videos https://youtu.be/FRLTOBBkm2I https://m.youtube.com/@iPhone_Photography_School/videos
