They're not overtly HDR-y either - iPhones aren't afraid of clipping some of the highlights or underdeveloping the deepest shadows if it's needed to get that characteristic contrasty look. Detail is no different than any of the 12MP cameras on the market - it's plenty. There's hardly any noise to speak of, but not everyone will be a fan of the somewhat overprocessed rendition of intricate detail that outresolves the sensor. ... The newly introduced Photographic Styles feature allows you to alter that default iPhone look to your liking.

October 19, 2021 - Starting with the iPhone 13 Pro’s ultra-wide camera, the focal length remains equivalent to 13mm, the same as the iPhone 12 Pro’s, but the aperture is f/1.8 rather than f/2.4. It’s also capable of focusing on subjects just 2cm away, which opens up the world of macro and close-up photography.

September 28, 2022 - It also uses sensor shift OIS, which last year was exclusive to the Pro Max device. The ultra-wide camera comes with a same-size sensor as last year but has gained a faster aperture and and a PDAF autofocus versus the fixed-focus lens on the iPhone 12 series. Sensor size remains unchanged in the tele module but Apple has increased the focal length and the tele now offers a 3x optical magnification compared to the primary cam. February 2, 2022 - While the jump from the X to the 11 is noticeable, the move to the 13 Pro is much less so, despite having a faster lens and larger sensor. It’s possible there is a lot more detail that the sensor and lens can resolve, but we can’t really tell — possibly it’s because the sensor resolution has been the same 12 megapixels since the iPhone 6S, which launched seven years ago. The iPhone’s go-to 12 megapixel resolution has not been a particularly limiting factor to me, a pretty hardcore iPhone photographer, for the last few years, but we can start to see diminishing returns as Apple sinks such tremendous investments into the camera hardware and processing.

And using the 3x Macro camera on the iPhone 13 Pro, I could get an incredibly clear very close picture, one in which I could see every crinkle in the paper label: Macro photography is probably not a thing that you want to do every day. But you’ll certainly know the times when you can take advantage of it.

July 19, 2021 - The images below are all from my 77mm f/2.8 lens on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Some are good. Most are below my standards. The one shot I thought would turn out the worst is the indoor shot of opals in a jewellery store. But it didn't. The image I expected to turn out best was the first one directly below of a woman posing for a photograph near the Sydney Opera House.
