Since I updated my software to iOS 16 my lightning to hdmi adapter isnt working. It says it needs to download a new firmware but nothing ever gets downloaded. Is anyone else having this problem? I have a place in woods without internet so I watch most of my shows through my tv/iPhone so this is a big problem for me. Is anyone else experiencing this? Anybody have ways to fix??
HDMI connector doesn’t work with ios 26.1 Ever since I update my i phone 15 to iOS 26.1, the HDMI adapter accessory no longer works. In most streaming apps I have no sound or no picture or both when connected to my pc obs studio. My brother has the same phone but is still running iOS 18.5. The adapter works fine with his. It is not the cable or adapter or tv that has the issue. Is this a known problem? (It seems to be after searching the net but not seeing solutions) How can I fix it?

Most apps unusable using HDMI right now. Disney+ works. Video stutters and no audio for Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix or HBO. Downloading the content first doesn’t solve the problem. I applied latest updates of all. Is the driver corrupt? Can I somehow force a new download of the driver?
I bought this adapter (USB-C to HDMI) for my mom who has an iPhone 16. It worked fine on my phone (iPhone 15) without any problems. When I plug it into my phone the phone lights up but when I plug it into her phone it doesn’t, like nothing is connected even though we have the same port (USB-C).
When I already have the hdmi-TV plugged and plug the HDMI-USBc to her phone, nothing happens. The only time anything happens is if I have everything plugged in when the TV is off and turn on the TV, a message on the TV displays saying “download failed, try again later”. I never got an option to download anything when I had my, iPhone 15, plugged in for the first or any time. I can’t find anything in settings that let you see that the phone is connected to the TV or the option to screen mirror when it’s connected (the TV does not have AirPlay btw).
The reason I bought this specific adapter is because one of the most recent reviews said “works fantastic for my iPhone 16, not complicated at all”.
Help, what do I do? Or what can I do?
I’ve used the same iPhone 13, same Samsung tv that is 18 years old and same HDMI cable so I can do my workouts using my tv and not a tiny phone screen for the last 18 months. The last two days this has popped up when I plug the cord in. The only thing that has changed is that I updated to iOS 18. Anyone know a way around it or what I need that will work besides a smart tv?
I have just purchased an official apple Lightning to AV HDMI adaptor. No matter what I do, I cannot get it to connect reliably. Sometimes it connects and works perfectly, and other times my TV just doesn't see the iphone. The HDMI channel simply says that nothing is connected. I have an iphone SE 2nd Generation, ios 16.1.1. I got the Lightning port cleaned at the "Genius Bar" recently, so the connection is good. The HDMI cable and connection works perfectly with all other HDMI components I have tried. When my TV is not seeing the phone connection, the only fix that seems to work is to turn the phone off completely then turn it on again. Then it seems find the HDMI connection again. Does anyone know if there is any other way of telling the phone to activate the HDMI connection? I have read a number of other similar posts, but nothing exactly the same as this.

If you have a spare iPhone or an iPad lying around, you could test the av adapter with that to see if you have the same issue with another device. This can help you narrow down what’s the cause of the issue.
Could be a faulty av adapter, could be something with your phone. If restarting your phone temporarily fixes the issue, I would think you have a weird iOS bug. You could try to fix this by resetting all settings on your phone, or by doing a factory restore
so i got a new adapter for the upcoming school year. I tried it on my ipad and iPhone (both on ios17), with no luck. however, i tried it on my sisters ios 16 ipad and it worked wonders. Wondering if its a bug or they removed connectivity?
I have been using my Iphone to stream on a TV in my car via USB_C to HDMI and this has worked great for several years with my Iphone 11 promax. When playing apps such as youtube, netlfix, amazon prime video, or even videos over safari the iphone would send the video to the external monitor and it would display full screen on the native resolution of the external monitor. The Iphone itself would display a message that it was playing on an external monitor or something akin to this. Basically it would work the sameway as though you were screen-mirroring or casting an app for video over wifi.
The above method also worked on my iphone 15 promax until just yesterday when all of a sudden, youtube and amazon prime video dont recognize the phone is plugged into an external monitor. So as a result video plays on my phone on landscape mode and displays on the external monitor in a weird resolution.
I called Apple tech support and got a US based rep. He was perplexed by the problem and had me send a video demonstrating it. Not sure if anyone has an idea how to resolve this or if this will have to be fixed by Apple.
TLDR- When playing video over USB-C to HDMI the resolution on the external monitor is messed up. Anyone else notice this or have a fix?
I recently bought an iPhone Air and decided to watch a movie through the TV, I connect it through the adapter to the hdmi of the TV and 0 effect. Only the label on the TV changes from "No source" to "No signal". In the dynamic island, there is no icon on the Air that it is connected anywhere.
I tried to connect to a computer monitor, the effect is the same: 15 pro and 16 work, Air does not output anything.
Everything works on the iPhone 15 Pro and on the iPhone 16. Have Apple cut off the Air's capabilities or do I need to enable something in the settings?
Hey everyone, I’m using a Lightning to HDMI adapter on my iPhone to connect it to a monitor so I can play Fortnite. The video works perfectly — but I can’t hear any sound at all.
I tried using my Bluetooth headphones, but once the HDMI is plugged in, audio completely cuts out. It doesn’t play through Bluetooth or through the monitor (which has no speakers). The HDMI adapter is one of those power-needed ones fromAliExpress.
I’ve tried: • Reconnecting Bluetooth before and after plugging HDMI • Restarting the phone • Checking volume, etc.
Still nothing. Is this just how iOS handles HDMI audio? Do I need a better adapter (like Apple’s official one) or is there any workaround to force audio through Bluetooth?
Has anyone else fixed this?
Thanks!
Hi everyone,
I've run into a bit of an issue and could use some help. I recently purchased a female HDMI to female HDMI adapter to connect my iPhone 15 Pro to the TV.
Here's the setup:
There's an existing HDMI cable connected to the TV, which has been plastered over. This cable definitely works as I can connect other devices to it without any problems.
The HDMI adapter I bought also works. I tested it by connecting my laptop via HDMI to the adapter, and then into the HDMI cable to the TV. Everything displays perfectly.
However, when I try to use the adapter with my iPhone 15 Pro, I get no signal.
Important points:
The existing HDMI to HDMI cable to the TV works.
The USB-C to HDMI adapter from the iPhone also works when plugged directly into the TV.
The new female-to-female HDMI adapter works with my laptop.
I can use the connector with an HDMI cable plugged into my monitor, and the other end plugged into the USB-C to HDMI cable and that works. Unsure why it doesn’t when I connect it to my TV?
So, why isn't my phone working when I use the HDMI adapter, but it works when I plug the phone directly into the TV? Is there a minimum spec the connector needs to meet?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
Hello everyone, so recently I upgraded to iOS 18 and my adapter was working fine when it was on iOS 17. After downloading IOS 18 and connecting the adapter to my phone there was a pop ups message saying "accessories take too much power" . How do I fix this? and for clarification the adapter is a third party adapter but it's Apple MFI certified so no I doubt the apple adapter would work. I already tried connecting with the charger as well with a 20W brick bc 14PM only take up to 20W
I originally posted this in the Direct TV stream Reddit section but now realize it’s affecting many apps and since I travel a lot and use the dongle primarily to view content on screens
https://www.reddit.com/r/DirectvStream/comments/z2b9gf/comment/ixgcnd5/?context=3
my stuff: iPad 9th gen and. iPhone SE2 both exhibit the same behavior that weren’t there with many apps : DirecTV stream, CBS, Prime, AMC which the audio doesn’t port over to the TV and the video stutters (more like stops then continuing like the pause button is pressed repeatedly) None of this behavior existed before when my phone and pad were on 15.x.x and many other apps like HBO Showtime TLC NBC and more have no issues and don’t chocken
And there seems to be no difference if it’s a live stream or content stored locally on a device
Anyone had these issues? Many thanks .
Apple still hasn’t fixed this issue, so they must not care. Like I said in my other comment, time for a Class Action Lawsuit. This is now affecting people financially due to purchasing new Apple Lightning converters and HDMI cables and the issue still persists. When you call Apple they take all your information and say they will open a case, but have zero work arounds on what to do.
I just received the following from Spectrum today:
“Thanks for the feedback. We have heard from our developers and this issue is an Apple issue with the iOS 16 update. Apple is aware of the issue and working on a fix. While not all streaming apps are impacted, we have been assured that this is not a Spectrum App issue. Please look for a future update from Apple to resolve the issue. Anyone else have this issue with apple’s adapter? It used to work fine but now only a Black screen shows up on the tv screen with audio but the video plays on the iOS device. I initially thought it might be an hdmi issue so I went out and bought a new one with the same result.
Could it be a software issue (apple iOS or Netflix side?) or a hardware issue? (Faulty adapter)
