This one doesn’t. Now there is one app that can beat iPhones night mode and only one app has been the champion for years. That is of course Cortex Cam. Cortex camera is also cheaper (at least it was when I bought it). The OP talks about the Night Mode in the Camera app and not the system Dark Mode. Night Mode won't be available on iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, because it requires A13.

Answer (1 of 3): The iPhone XS Max performs poorly at night, in any low light really, for exactly the same reason that every other smartphone camera performs poorly in low light. Those that seem to do better are using a software “magic trick”. Photography is all about capturing light.
