Every time that I try to get a review for a Vostro laptop I get comments that don't say anything but "Vostro is bad Lattitude is good"
Why? Can someone please explain that to me?
I'm a student and I don't have enough money to spend on Lattitude, the Vostro is in my price range and I really need a new computer.
Hello there! I'm going to buy that laptop. It has 2.4 GHz 4-cored processor (4.2 GHz in Turbo), 8 GB RAM (can be extended to 16), 256 GB SSD (I'll replace it to 512 or 1024 GB) and Intel Iris Xe Graphics GPU. And I'll install Linux on them. I'm engaged in Java and Android development and learning Data Science and Analytics, so I use Python and R. Will be it enough for my purposes?
Get the most RAM you can.
get the larger battery if you upgrade ram. i have 32gb ram and running Pop OS linux, with the original 3-core? battery i get about 2hr runtime! also clean your fans a couple times a year. but yes it is plenty for what youre doing. i use it for python, java, data analytics, etc. sometimes processing huge data sets and shitty code will eat up memory, but overall this machine works very well for me.
I'm thinking of buying a Dell Vostro 5410. I have two options for graphics card:
-
Intergrated Intel Iris Xe
-
Dedicated Nvidia GeForce mx450
The price for the second is +55$ so not such a big deal, the question is whether it will give me linux problems. I plan to use either Fedora, pop!_OS or Mint (haven't decided yet). Any experience with these cards?
I'm not really planning to play games or use high-end graphics, mostly browsing and LaTeX editing. But who knows what the future might bring...
Thx!
