I had an email with my domain there for nearly 20 years. All of the sudden I received an email that they were switching email services, and it would now cost a crazy amount I called to confirm, as I have another server I can host my domain and receive free email. They said they would give me a year free, and said nothing needs to be done on my end, it will just continue working. Fast forward, I start noticing I haven’t received emails in this account for some time I call GoDaddy, and they admit I was given wrong information, my email was cancelled and all 20 years worth of important and irreplaceable emails are gone forever. I ask them how they plan on making this right, as this error is huge. They said “you’re getting 1 year email free, that’s good enough” and that “we can just cancel it all together if you prefer” I immediately transferred 20+ domains elsewhere Fuck Godaddy Answer from TodayWeThrowItAway on reddit.com

r/webhosting on Reddit: WHY is Godaddy that bad?
October 20, 2022 -

Everybody always says Godaddy is trash, leave them ASAP, etc. But WHY? What do they do wrong that makes them such an unusable hosting provider?

For context: I’ve been purchasing my domains through Godaddy for years and therefore found it most convenient to purchase their WP hosting as well. I’ve always noticed my WP sites are painfully slow, even when I use the bare minimum for plugins and have literally only 1-2 blog posts up with only a couple photos. I know a giant plugin like Yoast can slow down a site, but I also know there are millions of functioning websites out there using Yoast and loading just fine.

Is it Godaddy or is it me?

I’m in the process of migrating to SiteGround, and I hope I’m making the right decision.

GoDaddy Reviews 2025: Is It Still a Good Website Builder & Storefront?
GoDaddy Website Builder & eCommerce
That said, more technical users or those managing larger websites may find the support experience limited when compared to hosts that specialize in performance or deeper customization. In short, GoDaddy’s support is accessible and friendly for everyday needs, but it may not go far enough for complex technical setups or users who prefer deeper platform control. At the end of the day, if GoDaddy isn’t the right fit — or if you’ve hit its limits — the good ...

I'm using GoDaddy for hosting. But everyone says they are the worst but never explain why. Are they really bad?
They're an overall incompetent, horrifically unethical company that has zero regard for their customers. There are countless reasons why your business should not use GoDaddy. Here are the 3 biggest problems with GoDaddy websites: GoDaddy Problem #1: Zero Flexibility GoDaddy’s website builder might have a lot of pre-made designer templates that seem great for your business’s website, but there’s a major downside: you have zero flexibility. Once you pick a theme to use, you can’t switch to another without losing all of your content. GoDaddy Problem #2: Reliance on Third-Party Tools GoDaddy’s website development isn’t its bread and butter. As a result, their website building tool is missing a lot of common functionalities that help make a small business website successful. This includes traffic driving aspects such as newsletters, maps, and more. However, GoDaddy does allow you to incorporate them into your website, but there’s a catch: you have to use third-party apps. This means that you will be responsible for properly using them. As a result, GoDaddy essentially doesn’t really do the time-consuming and challenging design work, you do. GoDaddy Problem #3: Poor Mobile Display Nowadays, having a mobile responsive website that can be viewed on desktops, smartphones, tablets, etc. is essential for success. While GoDaddy’s website builder automatically converts your business’s website into a mobile-friendly interface, the mobile display is basic at best. And having a poor mobile display is a major issue for any and all websites. Consumers expect businesses’ mobile sites to look just as high quality as they do on a computer, and GoDaddy’s does not. As a result, GoDaddy’s basic mobile version of your website can actually harm your brand. This GoDaddy website review is not the only one to unmask serious problems with GoDaddy. In fact, according to consumeraffairs.com , there are hundreds more. Each of these reviews come from businesses working first-hand with GoDaddy and explain all their trials and tribulations of doing so. Out of 5-stars, GoDaddy receives only 1 for overall customer satisfaction. The customer complaints are long and frightening. In addition to the problems with GoDaddy covered above, their issues range from jacking up prices and charging credit cards without consent to horrible customer service and holding domain names hostage, as well as everything in between. Many people warn others from using GoDaddy’s services, and we advise you listen so one day you don’t have to give out warning of your own. More on reddit.com

Why does GoDaddy suck and what should I use instead?
Linode and Digital Ocean are pretty popular. I use Linode. If you're not comfortable administering your own box but are comfortable learning they have great tutorials, too. More on reddit.com

PSA: Avoid GoDaddy for registering domains and web hosting.

On this, a friend of mine registered/hosted with them for 6-7 years, missed his auto-renewal due to new bank card and he was out of the country on his honeymoon. When the site didn’t auto-renew it was immediately bought up by another company which he found out is a subsidiary of GoDaddy and they then wanted to charge him an absolute fortune to get it back. Admittedly it was his fault for not catching the auto renewal issue in time but they completely operated in bad faith.

Avoid GoDaddy like the plague.
I’ve just left ionos as after being a customer for nearly 6 years I just had enough of creeping mini charges, non english tech support and crappy cloud servers. Now living the digital ocean life and you realise how much performance you were missing! And like a quarter of the cost for the better features. Only ball ache was setting up email for the domain but that’s all sorted and everything’s great. I personally have used godaddy and was never a fan but ionos can stick it lol More on reddit.com

Is GoDaddy any good for hosting?

Our testing found GoDaddy’s WordPress hosting returned a dismal 99.1% uptime reliability. On top of that, our load speeds were between 1.1 and 3.2 seconds. The average acceptable loading speed of our top two “budget” hosts is 0.8 seconds, with an uptime of 100%. You can do much better than GoDaddy and for much less money, too.

GoDaddy Hosting Review 2025: A Developer's Honest Take
I mean, even on the standard shared hosting, GoDaddy got to 99.95%. Admittedly, my test website for the WordPress hosting website was shorter, but over an almost two-week period, there were forty periods of downtime, most lasting 1-2 minutes – but one lasting a whopping 43 minutes. That’s your monthly ‘allowance’ of downtime with a 99.9% uptime guarantee gone in one period of downtime! There is a 99.9% uptime guarantee, supposedly, but it’s not a very good one – all you get as compensation is a 5% credit of your monthly fee, which you can only use to purchase additional services from GoDaddy.

GoDaddy
This is the go-to plan if you’re setting up a WordPress website and are looking for a good hosting option. You get 10GB of space and data transfer is unmetered, but if your site proves to have extremely high traffic, GoDaddy may ask you to upgrade to a VPS server.
