I may be a bit bias as I own an S23 ultra myself but comparing the screen on mine to my co-workers S24 ultra I'd have to say the screen on the S23 is much nicer to look at. Battery life on mine is usually 5-6.5 hrs screen on time for a full days use only charging to 80%. Having owned mine for nearly a full year now and I still really like my phone. Hope this helps! Been thinking about a phone upgrade and debating whether to switch back to android from an iphone xr that ive had since 2019 or just stay on the iphone path. The Iphone 14 I already know is just an upgrade from what I already have but what’s different about the newer samsungs? For reference havent had an android since 2016 when I had a samsung galaxy s7 edge which for the 3 years a had it it got noticeably slower while the iphone I have still runs smooth as the day I got it. Please post your opinions on the s23ultra if you have it.

battery - really anywhere between 6 - 10 hrs of sot. factors such as display resolution, refresh rate and performance profile actually have a minimal impact on this in my experience but using cellular instead of wifi is likely to reduce your sot by 1-2 hours. mobile hotspots barely drain from my experience.

performance - zzzzzzzzzzzzzz what can i say. I don't game much but most games sip power. I do still find it a little weird how the phone is pretty laggy when booting up though. itll show a 4 or 5 second startup dialogue then be really slow for the next 10-15 seconds. would be nice if it was smooth right off the bat like iphone.

camera - the main 12/50/200 lens is very refined. would be cool is the app could let you tune the brightness/exposure better since i feel like just tapping the frame makes it too bright. remember to get camera assistant.

- disabling auto hdr (its really aggressive and createsa weird outlining around subjects) and scene optimiser

- setting picture softening to off or medium

- enabling quick tap shutter and prioritise focus over speed

- disable auto lens switching if it is enabled.

Features - S pen is cool i use it sometimes, the phone itself is a feature because of the freedom you get.

UI - notifs are good. quick panel is bloated. otherwise the user experience is pretty similar to ios.

Apps - This is probably my biggest pet peeve but it mostly isnt samsungs fault either. Some apps that work so well on ios are just terrible on android. It really annoys me when im scrolling and there is a stutter because the app is poorly optimised. Reddit app is just trash. instagram is half functional -> there is currently a bug on android that hasnt been fixed in ages where certain ig users cannot scroll reels normally.

Browser - The phone falls a little short. on my friends 14 pro max and on my ipad pro, browsing speeds on any browser in general (safari specifically) are STUPIDLY FAST. as fast as my gaming pc. You cannot get this on the samsung. Chrome is the fastest on this phone in my experience.

galaxy store - why am i greeted with an ad every time I open it and why is a native samsung app so stuttery in terms of loading and scrolling.

Display - resolution/sharpness is literally 500ppi. vivid mode is alright but I recommend using any debug settings tool to restore the old display settings. I prefer amoled cinema which targets dcip3. I do not like how hdr content locks brightness.

"ecosystem" - i dont really know anyone who rocks a full samsung setup but messaging to other androids is almost like imessage. quickshare is also really really impressive. windows sync apps like intel unison and phone link DO NOT replace the iphone + macbook feel like people make it seem.

Customisation - good lock lets you customise many things. Would be cool if there was an inbuilt way of editing app icons/creating shortcuts. There is also a pretty small ecosystem of good widget apps. a lot of the widget apps available on the play store have really backdated designs as if they were made for the android 5.

Build: Drop resistance is probably quite good but i cant say for scratches. you must get a case and screen protector for this phone. the curved edges are a weakpoint.

Design: i mean it looks cool af but the coloring can do better. I bought the phantom black version but it looks like a grey in certain lighting conditions. and the aluminium edge does not look black at all. could really take notes from the space black iphone 14 pro, which in my opinion sets the mark for a black colored phone.

Summary: This phone really does seem to be getting the wrap from the tech community as the phone to dethrone iphone, but at the end of the day there are always these small things from iphone that'll have my respect.

overall: 8.5/10

So I’ve been wanting to switch from iOS to android for a while now and I think this is the perfect time. I’m currently using the iPhone 12 Pro and I really like the S23 Ultra but the size is a bit too big for me. I wonder if I’ll have any noticeable disadvantages going for the s23+ given that I won’t be using the 100x zoom or the 200mp mode or the S Pen from the ultra anyways. I just need a good android phone with good battery and decent ultra wide and wide cameras. ( does the s23+ have the same wide and ultrawide lens from the s23 ultra?)

I currently have the iPhone 13 Pro Max. And I am due for an upgrade. But lately I have been liking the s23 ultra. I have read & watch reviews. But my questions is it worth it? For those who have made the switch. I have a little fear of leaving apple. I know there is better out there. But I am hesitant.

To lose iMessage & FaceTime is a little scary to me. Especially when I’ve heard that android messages don’t always send … is that true?

This is a big decision I just need help…

Do you think that the s23 ultra will be a good purchase if I’m going to use it for the next 4-5 years? I heard a lot of mixed opinions regarding the camera and that it’s not beginner friendly at all , tbh I heard that it sucks considering the price and the other competitors especially in simple and casual point and shoot , and I do play games on my phone so will the performance hold up ? Or will the iPhone 15 plus be a better purchase as both of them are in the same price range in my country. I want an honest review from long term users , that would help a lot (:

r/GalaxyS23 on Reddit: Is it worth buying samsung galaxy s23 base or better get S23 Ultra?
June 21, 2022 -

Hello,

Please give me an advise.

I need a new phone, because my old Oneplus 6t is lagging and dying.

I need a small shape phone like Samsung Galaxy S23 base, but as I see it's not a big update from S22, it has same cameras and some phones get defective lenses.

Also, S23 Ultra looks like is the best phone to get this season and its very attractive, but it's kind of big like a brick and I feel that size is going to annoy later.

Does anyone bought S23 Ultra, how does size feels? I tested in the shop but you know, you have to have it longer

UPDATE:

Ended up getting S23 Ultra :D

I remembered that I always wanted to try phone with a pen, so I went for it and I love it. I thought that if I get base S23 it will be same like old phone but with better specs, but a phone with pen is totally different experience.

The size is big, but I'm getting used to it. It feels slippery without a case, so looking for a case now.

Cameras are fantastic!

For the battery need to test for longer.

Customization is sick! One Ui has tons of new features. My wife has an iPhone, for a second I thought I should get an iPhone too, but looking at the customization perspective and a freedom (compared to iOS) android is FTW. iPhone is great too, but not for my taste

Thank you all for your replies

r/samsung on Reddit: S23 vs S23 Ultra - is it worth paying paying more for the Ultra?
October 5, 2024 -

I was almost decided to buy S23 Ultra but the difference in prices makes me reconsidering whether it's still worth paying this much more.

Standard S23 w 256GB after all discounts, deals and trade-in is around €440.

For comparison, S23 Ultra with the discount is around €810.

For some reason Samsung in my country doesn't offer trade-in when buying S23 Ultra so I would have to sell my S21 by myself which probably won't get me more than around €100 so even if I sell it, it will bring down what I pay for the Ultra to around €700.

At first I was really hyped up for the Ultra because I wanted something top notch and something that will make me feel the difference after upgrading.

But it is almost a 2 years old phone. Is the Ultra worth it paying almost double the price compared to standard S23?

So the phone is 6 months old or so, would you mind to share some of your user experience after using this phone for some time?

Any changes compare to when you firstly bought? The battery drain, temperature heating up, camera performance after few updates etc. Saw somewhere mentioned that phone gets hot during gaming which it was not obvious during time of purchase (does not affect performance though only the temperature).

I was using S22 Ultra and the screen had some issue hence considering to trade in and get a S23 Ultra. Also, what case are you using? I had the official clear case last year, but this year official cases are underwhelming. Really appreciate it if you could provide some information. Thank you!

Hey guys,

I recently got an offer for a used (2-year-old) Galaxy S23 Ultra (India variant) for ₹55,000 (~USD 629).

I’m currently using a Galaxy S21 FE, the problems with this phone are green lines (seems to be a common issue with this model), and low power backup.

I'm considering upgrading and I want to ask, Is the S23 Ultra still worth it in 2025? Will I face the same issues I am currently facing?
