Hi! I’m a recent transplant from MN to Long Beach and as much as I’m loving CA, I’m missing the greenery/nature in MN. My family and I are looking to buy a home within an hour of LA, an hour to the beach, and a Mountain View for under $1mil. I know this is a hefty ask but I recently came across Silverado and it seems like a really good option! I’m curious to know:

-how diverse the schools are? I’m black and my son is biracial -how is the actual commute to LA/the beach? -I’m a bleeding liberal, should I be nervous?

October 19, 2024 -

I’m a frequent visitor of the canyons - black star, trabuco, silverado, modjeska… It’s a pretty isolated area within orange county. in my eyes, it’s a coveted gem. I love love love hiking there and know nearly every nook & cranny. I have always wondered whether i myself, may someday stumble across any human remains while exploring, etc. being that its landscape is barren in comparison to the busy cities in OC.

I recently watched the Netflix series “Worst Roomate Ever” and realized my fav place (the canyons) were home to one of the series most tragic events. The victim, Maribel Ramos, lived in Orange and was murdered by her roomate KC Joy. He dumped her body in a plastic bag, over the ravine next to Santiago Canyon Rd. It itches my curiosity - what else has happened here?

So my question is: Does anyone know of any other murders, or recovered bodies, that happened in the canyons?

Also, do you have any ghost sightings, or paranormal encounters? or any strange people you’ve met/heard of?

I know a few things already, like the Native shoshone tribe massacre, silver mines, KKK & freemason rumors, school bus accident, and of course, the recent shooting at cooks corner. Terrible.

*Please comment if you have any personal or historical instances to share. Appreciations!

PS: Regarding Maribel, i pray she rests in utter peace and blissfulness. It breaks my heart for all her loved ones. She was an awesome human being from what the show expressed. Truly caring, truly generous. And oh so strong. She was ex-military too.

Silverado Canyon is truly a hidden gem of Southern California. The drive winding up to Maple Springs trailhead is part of the journey. Take it slow to admire this unique town nestled in the mountains. At the end of the paved portion of Silverado Canyon Road, there is a gate that is sometimes closed seasonally.
