Kohler Tub Spout Diverter is stuck upright. How to fix it?
1st time home owner. I called Kohler and they said they won't replace it since I'm not the original owner without a receipt. So much for lifetime warranty. They also told me they would discount 25% for the replacement which the price they quoted me was more expensive than if I got a new one on their site...makes no sense at all. Anyways, some questions I had: Is there any hope to "fix" this tub spout? Any methods outside of taking the entire spout off and soaking it in vinegar/baking powder? I have no problems letting it soak for a few days since I have a 2nd shower. Or should I just give up entirely and just straight up purchase a replacement? Best way to remove the tub spout? I watched a bunch of videos but just want to make sure. Does this seem right: remove caulk around yellow arrow, unscrew set screw underneath the hole close to the wall, then spin until the spout comes loose? Is there a recommended way of removing the caulk? Go in with a utility knife or do I have to use caulk remover? Most of the videos I watch never talked about the caulk part. Thank you very much in advance. I quoted a few local plumbers but they didn't seem like they wanted to take on a small job/quoted me a high price to fix it. So I'm here trying my best after watching a lot of Youtube lol. Any help will be greatly appreciated! More on reddit.com

August 9, 2022 - As in normal operation once the water is shut off the diverter knob should drop down and the last bit of water should come out the tub spout. Don't be afraid to give it multiple applications, time is on your side. Others may know better ways but I've fixed more than a few this way. And even if it doesn't solve your problem PB Blaster is a great addition to any tool kit, so I don't feel like it would be a complete loss. I'd try this first as a home owner before I moved on to replacing it.

Hi fixit,
My tub faucet (Kohler Taboret K-T8224-4-CP) started leaking the other day with the diverter up. I went to the hardware store and purchased a Danco "universal" Tub Spout Diverter Repair Kit. However, when I looked underneath the faucet, I saw this cap (second picture) that I couldn't make budge (even with a pair of pliers). Most Tub Spout Diverter repair videos I saw online have the stem be right at the end of the spout but mine is in the middle. I was assured that the installation process and parts are more or less the same. However, I can't even get to the diverter right now, much less replace it.
I rather not call a plumber for a $5 part. Do I have to get a new tub spout?
