Never done it, but former Menards employee. Menards’s definition of a “kit” is probably different than yours: it’s a literal shopping list, incl. 10% overages, etc. it’s a very complete list, but a shopping list all the same. if you need a 93” 2x4, you’re just getting an 8’ 2x4 off the shelf and told to cut it. It’s all stick build, and you’re expected to bring your own framing and finishing skills. Compare to the “TuffShed” kits from Home Depot where you are actually getting cut and sized stuff that you assemble like a model airplane. Those you just add paint and shingles. Think of the difference between a recipe and one of those hello fresh meals. Also, you’re paying retail. So unless you have those GC skills, you’re probably best hiring it out. At least the GCs usually can get some sort of materials discount. More on reddit.com

the kits are ok, but you may need to do some upgrades...doors, windows, overhead doors are usually the bottom of the quality spectrum.
