Why not just create a test policy and scope it to a few pilot users to see how it will effect you? I assume you are talking about creating a policy for Safe Links, Safe Attachments and/or Anti-malware? You can do this pretty easily here . Link above just takes you to: Microsoft 365 Defender>Policies & Rules>Threat Policies>Anti-Malware. For Safe Attachments and Safe Links policies, just step back one and you'll find it in the Policies Section in Threat Policies area here . Think it's the Safe Attachments that you mean though, correct? The one I did in my Azure lab is scoped to just me, but when I did this at work I created a Group, added some pilot users and then scoped to that to test when we did this. Probably best to scope any policy to some pilot group first rather than globally. More on reddit.com

I an an Office 365 (O365) subscriber. I received an email advising that Microsoft Defender, a new online security APP, is included in O365.
I'm confused. Doesn't Windows include Defender (Windows Security)? If so, why would I need to install an APP?

I'm looking into implementing Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 or 2 for a small company with 30 users. We currently use basic Exchange Online Protection which is included with Microsoft 365 business standard. The high volume of false negatives is a huge headache.
If we upgraded to Defender for Office 365, in your experience would this actually make the system handle false negatives better, or does it just add extra features like simulated spear-phishing, and URL detonation?
Thanks!

So we have Defender for 365 P2 which is included with our Partner licensing for most users. We make sure all our high profile and high risk (both due to role and those who are simply idiots) have it on their account. Rarely does Defender for 365 actively prevent anything. Pretty much everything is let right though. What Defender will do rather well is let you know that a link was determined to be malicious 3 hours after a user clicked on it. It's very much a "you've been screwed" reporting tool and should not realistically be looked at or expected to be more than that. That said it still has value as it's better to know that it happened and be able to check/remediate immediately vs waiting until something more serious happens later on.
