When I buy standalone Office 2024 for one PC, it comes with a lifetime/perpetual license. But then Microsoft says that they're going to drop support for that product in 5 years. Do I understand that correctly?
In other words, when they call it a "lifetime" license, they don't mean *my* lifetime, they mean the product's lifetime. (Of course. Duh.) Which is defined as five years.
Technically, I can *run* the software forever, but Microsoft's gonna kill it by pulling all security support. So ... now I get it. Not complaining. Just being clear.
So *now* when I compare standalone vs 365 ... they're *both* subscriptions. $150 for 3 years using Home standalone. Or $300 for 3 years for Personal 365.
Right?

Yes, you may use this Office at least until it become outdated and not supported by new Windows versions.
Your license code is tied to your Microsoft account so you do not need it to reinstall Office, just install Office from your account - https://account.microsoft.com/services
Yes, you can move/transfer the licence to another computer belonging to you. You do not need the Product Key, but keep it safe as it is your proof of purchase. See below from Microsoft re moving Office:

PS: 'lifetime licence' means you only pay for the licence once. It is often called 'one-time payment' version of Office.
All I want is a one time payment. I just want the apps. I don't want to deal with expensive subscriptions.
I don't care about updates, unlimited one drive storage or anything else.
All I want is the exact same experience from my MS XP Word, Excel and PP apps that were bought once and always available for use. No subscription!
