I had a fairly valuable priority mail flate rate bubble envelope shipped to me. The package was initially scanned in at a distribution center in NY. There were no updates for a week and I submitted a help request form.
USPS actually called me (which surprised me) and stated there has not been a physical scan for a while. She said I should file a "missing mail claim" and they she flagged the shipment. She continued that sometimes just flagging the package will have it moving again. I submitted the missing mail form last week, but there have not been any updates on it.
I have a small hobby business and ship USPS A LOT. I've had packages take a long time to be delivered, but I've never ran into a package having a single scan then never having an additional scan for multiple weeks. At this point, I'm wondering if I should keep patient or submit an insurance claim? There is insurance on the package, but the contents are sentimental as well as valuable and I'd rather have the package.
Has anyone submitted a Missing Mail Search with USPS and have it work? Additionally, if anyone has any input on filing an insurance claim, I'd be interested in that as well. Thanks!
I have several packages that have been delayed from their expected arrival time, presumably due to Ida. For some, I initiate the mail inquiry and the top of the page still says "In transit, arriving late" in navy, though it says I opened up a search request in the tracking history. For others, the "Missing Mail Search Request Initiated" is what shows up in red at the top of the page. Is there a specific reason why it shows up in red for some, but not for others? Is the "arriving late" message just supposed to mean it's delayed but USPS knows where it is, whereas if it's in the red, then we're supposed to be shitting bricks because it's most likely actually lost?
After multiple days of continuously stating "moving through network" after arriving to the Fairburn, GA facility, I was convinced to submit a missing mail search based off of others advice in this subreddit. Low and behold I wake up this morning with the package making progress. Second picture is the Fairburn facility at the bottom, and the Palmetto facility at the top. Crazy that it took 4 days to travel 2.4 miles!
Don't rely on USPS to sort things out on their own, valuable lesson learned. It's unfortunate that I'm having to take time out of my day to help them do their job. This has given me unnecessary stress and anxiety to deal with, and has even gotten to the point of losing sleep over worry.
Due to this, and the plethora of other issues that are currently affecting the USPS, I have decided to temporarily close my online store that I own. I can not possibly rely on a company that is this complacent to have my customer's best interests in mind.
Sorry for all that are experiencing issues, and I truly hope your packages arrive soon. DO BETTER USPS!
