Hi, I’m moving into my first ever apartment for my final year of college, and my vision was to create a sophisticated, ‘modern eclectic’ styled living room. Of course, being a college student, I am on a very tight budget. My roommate’s grandparents are downsizing, so they gave us this futon. Even though I think the pattern is outdated, I just couldn’t say no to a free couch. Also, I do really like florals in general, I’m just not used to them being on couches.

I have noticed that most living rooms that fit into the ‘modern eclectic’ style have patterned, multicolored carpets but monochromatic couches. I feel like having a loudly patterned couch means that I should forgo a patterned carpet, which saddens me because I love a funky patterned rug or turkish carpet. Essentially, what kind of carpet do you think goes with this couch? Please feel free to link photos or listings so I can get an example.

The other alternative is to cover up the couch, which would cost money (about as much money as buying another monochromatic futon on Facebook Marketplace would be). I’m considering buying this lavender cover and pairing it with a blue, floral patterned rug. Or is that ridiculous and a waste of money?

Lastly, I want to ask if anyone has any photos of modern living rooms with patterned couches that I could look at for reassurance that this couch pattern can be made to fit into a cohesive, stylish living room. If you could please share any reference images with me I would be so appreciative.
