This is the oldest surviving Canadiens jersey. It is the 1912-13 alternate jersey worn by the team during games against the Ottawa Senators. Both teams has their own barberpole sweaters and the lighting in the old arenas made it difficult for the players to distinguish between each other. This particular sweater was worn by Hyacinthe Guevermont, who only played two games with the team in 1912-13 and did not score a point. Until a few years ago, it was on display at the Canadiens own Hall of Fame at the Bell Centre in the "Century of Greatness" exhibit. The sweater is probably in storage right now. You can see it really well in the team photo - also, note the team mascot! (the little dog). The team player wearing the alternate in the third picture is Alphonse Jette, who played 19 games over 4 seasons.
