It varies a lot from place to place, especially because a lot depends on the folks you work with. In my experience it was bursts of frantic activity (screens all tend to fill and empty around the same times) and then stretches of trying to look busy for the sake of it. I enjoyed it a lot though, and the folks I worked with were great both during the crazy rushes and the downtime. So, hard work but fun, for me, and good experience as a first job. Some advice though - some customers are just weird and cannot be reasoned with. Don't take it to heart. It's just something to laugh about with your co workers tomorrow. More on reddit.com

The job isn't as bad as you might think it'll be. I expected to be dealing with angry guests quite a bit, I've actually rarely had to do it. In my experience, the work atmosphere is great, and I get free movies! Absolutely worth it in my opinion. More on reddit.com

I worked at one for two years as an usher. I tore tickets, swept up and cleaned the theatre, and stood int he back of theaters doing "theatre checks." Insanely easy but it was enjoyable at least. More on reddit.com
