Hey guys, trying to use the flash button on my Mag Mortar B650M.
I downloaded the file and put it onto a USB drive and renamed the file MSI.ROM.
I stuck it in and press the Flash bios button and the white LED blinked for a bit, the PC turned on, but now the LEd is just solid white.
All the videos online had a red LED, what does this mean?
I made sure the usb stick was formatted FAT32 with MBR and that it only contained the BIOS update file renamed as MSI.ROM.
The is an out-of-the-box instalation.
Currently attempting 8 different USB sticks while the mobo has no components (not even CMOS battery) besides the mandatory PSU cables.
Edit: By now I have my PC up and running, my issue was with a PSU cord that was probably backwards or something stupid.
Hello, I’m trying to update the BIOS of my MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WIFI using the Flash BIOS button. After pressing the button, the white light flashes three times and then stays solid on the third flash indefinitely. What could be happening during the BIOS update process?
I’ve already tried multiple flash drives, but the issue is still the same.
If anyone has experienced this or knows what the white LED behavior means, please let me know what else I can try. I’m stuck and really need help.
I recently finished the setup, the pc worked for around 2 hrs, then turned off. I got Red CPU and Yellow RAM lights on the ez debug place. I just followed all the steps on MSIs youtube video for flashing bios. Except in the video his mobo had a red flashing light. Mine has a white one, which stopped flashing at around 5 minutes. Its now been still white for 8 minutes, and nothing has happened.
Ive tried clearing cmos, shorting pins, re seating the mobo battery. Checking for bent pins, and re seating ram. This was my last hope before I return the mobo. Any help wiuld be greatly appreciated…
Hello, Im a first time pc builder, finished building my pc on MSI motherboard yesterday (MSI pro b650s-wifi) to be more exact. Tried turning on the pc for first time with sweat running down, wont boot, "uh its alr must be a bios thing". Format a usb, Loaded it up with latest bios, extracted all, moved bios to root of usb, deleted all other file, ejected usb. Alr, inserted into the specific bios flashing io press button for 2 secs, light starts blinking, goes solid white after about 3-4 secs of blinking??
Does this mean bios update is done? error? smt else? cause I know the lights indicate different things for different manufacturers. Chatgpt told me it might mean its done OR an error. Well the pc still wont boot like before. And now idk what to do.
Guys I need help right now I have an MSI B550 Torpedo and I’m trying to flash it so I can use my Ryzen 5 5600x cpu but the bios light stays on and not flashing. Should I wait like an hour to turn off the system since I know it’s bad to turn off while bios process is going on.

Solid white light constantly on in the top left of the motherboard (MSI B650-P WI-FI) near the I/O shield “Flash Bios Button”. Motherboard user manual doesn’t seem to have any info on it.
Stays on while computer is shut down. If I turn off the PSU, it will turn off, but turns on (eventually, not immediately) once the computer is on.

This is a new build. I had some problems with blue screens so I did some troubleshooting, one of the steps including updating the Bios from a USB created on a different computer.
Since then I reinstalled Windows with a clean install, which seems to have fixed the blue screens 🤞 but now I’ve noticed this light.
Monitor is connected via HDMI to graphics card, if that’s relevant.
Hi all. I’m a bit at my wit’s end here. I’m trying to do a BIOS flash without a CPU on a brand new X570 tomahawk. I’ve followed the steps of formatting the drive, loading the new bios renamed to MSI.ROM, and plugging in the MB and CPU1 power cables. However, when I plug in the USB and hit the button, while the USB light comes on, there are no LEDS lightning up anywhere on the MB itself or at the I/O shield.
I’ve tried with a few drives and all have had the same issue. I’d appreciate any advice!
Edit: in hindsight this was obvious, but the PSU is defective which is why the board wasn’t able to function. Currently sourcing a replacement PSU to see if there are any board issues anyway.
Edit 2: POSTed with a working PSU. I guess the first one just had barely enough functionality to power the USB.
Tried flashing a new board with 7B86v18 to use with a Ryzen 5 3600 with no success. Been trying various USB sticks, with various formats according to different posts (Use FAT32 with a stick more than 16GB, Use FAT32 with anything, Use FAT only, don't use anything over 4GB, etc, etc.)
At this point I'm just trying to get any bios to flash successfully. I have not yet had a successful flash. Every attempt ends in either 2 blinks and then a solid red light, or three blinks and no light.
Additionally, since the new Ryzen's and MSI boards have blown up, I'm having a rough time finding exactly what a solid red LED even means. I've been seeing that 3 blinks and then none indicate the board isn't recognizing the USB stick formatting or the file on the USB, I'm assuming that a solid red LED indicates something similar?
Is there a particular bios version I should be trying to get back down to ignorer to simply have a working board? I suppose it doesn't really matter as the only CPU I have is a Ryzen 5 3600 anyway.
Edit: Thanks for the responses. I wasn't very clear in my initial post. I do understand that the bios in general is pretty broken and "just wait longer" is what's going to have to happen. Such is life.
I think more than anything I just wanted to be sure I hadn't bricked my motherboard since I haven't seen a lot of information about the Flash bios LED flashing 3 times and/or staying on vs. CPU debug LED. Been 15 years since I last built a machine, you'd think it would have gotten easier ;)
Right now, the BIOS update v18 does not work for the new generation or Ryzen CPUs despite that being what it is designed to be for. Everyone with MSI B450 chips is getting a red CPU light, indicating the motherboard is not working with the CPU. Some people have gotten it to work, but many others have not. I have found that the USB used does not really make a difference, if the motherboard does not work with the CPU, nothing will change it besides an update. Every once in a while (maybe 1 in 20), the system will post but it is not sustainable. Right now, all of us are just waiting for MSI to release an update to the BIOS that will work with the new CPUs. Hopefully it will come out this week, as many people are having the same issue. But we never really know. I can tell you that all of us having the same issue are not happy with MSI, as this is an issue that should have been fixed long before the CPUs were released. Sorry that things aren’t working, I know it sucks to not be able to use a brand new system. But all we can do as of now is wait for MSI.
same issue as you only that i get a 2min blink of lights then solid red fucking me off at this point makeing this whole pc building thing hell for me.
When i press the flash bios button it does not flash its just a white led that turn off when i stop pressing
I have read the manual it says the white led should flash indcating the start of the flash process
My motherboard is: msi pro b650-p wifi ATX
