Some people have told me that intel cpus are going to change socket in the next generation so I am a little worried about the upgrade path for my build, should I just get another mother board or stick with this one?

Hiya, I have the MPG Z490 GAMING EDGE WIFI board. I built this rig back in December 2020 and did not update the BIOS, so it's probably very old. I'm planning on upgrading (bumping RAM up to 32GB and adding an M.2), so I'm wondering if it's worth updating the BIOS with the risks I've heard come with this board. I know there's a massive thread on the MSI forums talking about updates potentially bricking the board, and there's no flashback button I can press to fix things easily.

I would plan on enabling the XMP of my RAM (only going to 3200); Corsair Vengeance LPX). I know later updates improve memory compatibility amongst other things, which is the main reason why I'm querying updating the BIOS, but I'm a bit worried because knowing my luck, my board will brick.
