Buffer | Node.js v26.11.1 Documentation
Node.js only supports the little-endian variant of UTF-16. 'latin1': Latin-1 stands for ISO-8859-1. This character encoding only supports the Unicode characters from U+0000 to U+00FF. Each character is encoded using a single byte. Characters that do not fit into that range are truncated and will be mapped to characters in that range. Converting a Buffer into a string using one of the above is referred to as decoding, and converting a string into a Buffer is referred to as encoding.

Node.js Buffer Module
Buffers are similar to arrays of integers but are fixed-length and correspond to raw memory allocations outside the V8 JavaScript engine. Node.js provides the Buffer class as a global object, so you don't need to require or import it explicitly.

Node.js buffer: A complete guide - LogRocket Blog
June 4, 2024 - When the data processing unit cannot accept any more data streams, excess data is stored in a buffer until the data processing unit is ready to receive more data. Node.js servers most often need to read and write to the filesystem and, of course, files are stored in binaries.

Goodbye, Node.js Buffer โ€” Sindre Sorhus
October 24, 2023 - The Buffer type has been the cornerstone for binary data handling in Node.js since the beginning. However, these days we have Uint8Array, which is a native JavaScript type and works cross-platform. While Buffer is an instance of Uint8Array, it introduces numerous methods that are not available in other JavaScript environments.
