Currently trying to decide between registering for an Uppababy Aire or one of the Nuna car seats. Based on research, I know that if we go with Nuna we want one that uses the RELX base rather than the PIPA base, but I don't totally get the different between the Pipa Aire RX and the Pipa RX?

Every one of my friends who has babies that have used uppababy infant car seats always complains that their baby isn’t comfortable in them, they’re too firm, and not supportive enough. Multiple of these friends have made the switch to nuna and they all love it. So when I built my baby registry, I opted for the Nuna Pipa RX, and we couldn’t love it more for our baby. He is so comfortable, loves being in his seat, and it’s a huge plus that it’s easy take apart, wash, and put back together. It’s also very light to carry, which is nice especially as baby gets heavier. I wash his car seat cushions about once every two weeks and it comes out looking brand new every time. The relx base is a plus too, love being able to have him more reclined as an infant than most other car seats.

I have not actually received the car seat yet but my parents ordered it off of our registry as part of the mixx travel system.
I went to a store where they had demos showing the install and explaining the differences between the URBN and the AIRE and I thought the URBN seemed to offer for travel flexibility and honestly the base seemed wasteful if it’s not significantly safer. Especially since the whole car seat will only be able to be used for like a year. Then we would move on to a sturdier, long term, convertible car seat.
I see people complaining about how much of a pain it is to take a baseless car seat in and out, is it really that bad? In the store it looked easy. I don’t drive very often. I also don’t take Ubers or taxis very often. I just thought it would be nice to have the option to install it in someone else’s car if we needed to.
Maybe it’s not a big deal and the car seat is good enough? I guess as a FTM it looked streamlined and innovative compared to the base seats, but I don’t know how it plays out in practice. I don’t want to have to ask for the gift from my parents early so that I can return or exchange it within the 30 day window. I hope I’m just overthinking.

We have the Joie (Nuna’s sister company) mint latch car seat which is baseless, and it’s sooo easy. This is my first baby, so never had a car seat with a base, but I don’t see how it could get any easier. It takes maybe 3 seconds tops and we never have any issue with it. We don’t take ubers or taxis either, but love it anyway!

The weight is very close to the original Pipa, not the Lite though, and it may even be slightly more compact, the only thing you'd be missing out on is Nunas awesome sunshade.
