Currently I'm working with Superset. I used to work with Power BI not long ago. It has its pros and cons. Main cons, it's limitations when wanting to create specific visualizations. The charts lack capacity to tweek, so you'll get the data that you need, but not quite as you'd want it to be. Power BI has much more chart adaption and customization. And on the metrics side.. it's nice to have SQL as it's language, but some basic maetrics are a bit of a pain to create. I would say, overall it's harder to use Superset than power bi. Oh and its self service system is nonexistant. If you want to self serve, you better know SQL. Yet, I still like it. It directly query's the db, it's quite fast overall, and you skip the everyday import pain that PBI has.

Are there any modern BI tools that work like MicroStrategy common metadata based solution?
There’s nothing in the market like Microstrategy. We used MSTR for 8 years and got acquired by a company that had PowerBI. It’s a totally different approach in terms of common semantic layer. Which is everyone building their own data extraction for their own reports. No single version of the truth. I pushed really hard to be able to manage our own data with business transformation and managing a handful of datasets so we can have something similar to Microstrategy. More on reddit.com
