r/openSUSE on Reddit: A question about software availability in openSUSE?
December 5, 2022 -
Hey everyone, I have been thinking about hopping to openSUSE for some time (I use Fedora 37) but what concerns me is software availability because I heard a lot that it doesn't have as much software as Ubuntu or Fedora, I googled but didn't find direct answers to this question so any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Where I used to work (University) we were a Fedora/Centos shop. Being familiar with those distributions, they are what I ran on my machines personally. I'm now retired, and I now use openSUSE Tumbleweed. For me, I like the rolling release. Some folks don't, but it suits my needs without having to go through a laborious upgrade between major versions. I've found that openSUSE is rock solid and has all the software that I need. What applications are you worried you won't be able to run on openSUSE?

I switched to OpenSUSE from Fedora about 6 months ago and I haven’t had any issues with software availability. Software availability isn’t much of an issue these days thanks to flatpak and tools like distrobox. You can install stuff from the AUR in an arch distrobox and export it to your host as if it was a native app if you want to.
