Bag Finder Megathread - 22 December 2025

I recently got this cheap amazon bag over the holidays. It says 40L with dimensions of 22x11x10.5. Meanwhile, the Northface Basecamp Bag has official dimensions of 42L and 23' x 14.7' x 10.2. The basecamp is more than 2L bigger, right? They must be using different measuring systems? I am looking for a bag to be my new carry on for domestic travel. It sounds like the 42L can be squished and airlines don't care. My main requirement are a) easy to carry as a duffel b) takes full advantage of carry on space c) has separate shoe compartment d) relatively minimal/clean style I enjoy my northface backpack (that I use for bringing my laptop to work and also under the seat on planes) More on reddit.com

I have the previous version that I bought in 2016. I’ve been using it every day and it’s still going. Groceries, tablet, travel, it all fits. I’ve taken it as a packable day pack on several international trips. I found mine reasonably comfortable but others have not. I think it depends on back shape and shoulders. Hey everyone! I’m having a hard time figuring out which daypack works best for both travel and school use (mainly traveling). I plan on getting a TomToc T66 40L carry-on backpack, so I’m looking for something that won’t take up too much space and can be considered a personal item on most airlines. I’ve considered packable backpacks, but I also want to use this for everyday school use, so durability, looks (not too boxy) and comfort are important (good straps, supportive back panel, etc.). It would also be a big bonus if the pack can securely strap or clip a camera to it. I’d really appreciate any recommendations — thanks!

I’ve been eyeing this bag for awhile now as a possible airplane personal item and am on the fence about buying it. Has anyone tried/owned one who can share their thoughts on it?

My travel buddy took this with him last trip and we swapped carrying each other's bag. I thought it was awful. It lacks structure and feels uncomfortable with any decent loading. It seemed a lot smaller than the 27L it claimed. The fabric tore once when my friend took it off his shoulder. I also thought it was about as ugly as a bag could get (though my friend liked the aesthetic). I'd probably be less harsh if it weren't priced so highly. Patagonia make lots of decent gear, but this is just cheap and flimsy. I thought the 'Zomake' packable backpacks from Amazon were better for $20-30.
