So yeah, according to Max Winebach, the Pixel 5 Pro isn't happening: https://twitter.com/MaxWinebach/status/1337819787217473536?s=19
For me, this is not surprising, as it's pretty clear Google has been unsuccessful at marketing their high-end Android phones. Google seems to realize this, which is why they're leaning heavily into the mid-range and upper mid-range categories.
Despite this, "Tech News Outlets" such as Tom's Guide are citing absurd and clearly faked images, claiming a Pixel 5 Pro is on the horizon: https://www.tomsguide.com/news/google-pixel-5-pro-leak-teases-killer-camera-upgrade
A couple things to note about the images in the above article:
The image of the alleged 5 Pro is just an upside down Pixel 5. Note the cutout at the top of the phone case (which corresponds to cutouts we see at the bottom of many Pixel 5 phone cases). There is an app available that inverts the screen upside down. This is most likely used in this image. See edit below
The notion that Google would beat the likes of Samsung to market with a phone with an under the screen front facing camera is absurd and uncharacteristic of the Pixel line.
Please do not believe the hype about a Pixel 5 Pro. A high-end model Pixel is not coming until potentially next upgrade cycle. In the case of a future high-end Pixel phone, it is most likely that it will be running Google's own, proprietary chipset.
It is downright irresponsible for outlets such as Tom's Guide to run articles such as this.
Edit: I've been told the imagine is actually a Poco F1 Pro with custom Pixel ROM and not an upside-down Pixel 5. Whatever the case, the one thing we know is that it's not the Pixel 5 Pro.
About to order a Pixel 9 Pro in Hazel to replace my Pixel 5. Who's made this jump? How's the hand feel / weight comparatively?
Edit / Update: I keep seeing comments trickle in. I did it. Spoiler. I returned the Pixel 9 Pro. You can read about my thoughts here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/1fk6h17/i_bought_a_pixel_9_pro_to_replace_my_pixel_5_and/
I actually went back to an iPhone Mini.
