Plantronics USB Headset Having Issues on Win 11
Headset Mic will not work after Windows 11 Upgrade
Videos
Hey all,
I work in the IT department for large organisation, with over 1500 users. We are running Windows 10.
We have a mix of Plantronics/Poly Voyager 1/2 headsets paired with BT600/BT700 USB receivers.
Since December 2022 we have started to receive an increase number of reports for people that can't unmute or mute their headsets during calls or meetings. We mainly use Microsoft Teams, but it seems to apply to the system mute/unmute function so isn't limited to Teams.
We have Plantronics Hub installed on all computers. We have also tested without Plantronics Hub, but the issues still occur.
The issue is intermittent and can't be replicated on demand. It seems to happen every few days or weeks for the people who experience it.
I've raised cases with Microsoft and Poly but still haven't been able to identity the cause of the issue.
Is anyone else experiencing this and if so, can you share your findings or better still, a fix?
So I've got a Dell Precision 5570 laptop, and a Plantronics Savi 8210 headset (connected via USB, not BT). This used to work fantastically well, but recently I was "upgraded" to Windows 11 by our IT department (I'm in IT too, but I'm a network guy). Sadly they don't have any idea what's causing my issues, so I'm hoping that maybe someone here has an idea.
I've got two issues happening now. First of all, when I'm using my headset in Teams, and any other sound plays (like a new mail notification, for instance), the headset audio will cut completely out for a couple of seconds. This happens even when the headset is not configured as the default sound device - my dock's line out is. I'm not sure why playing a sound on a completely different device should cause my headset to cut out, but it has been ever since the upgrade.
The other issue is that the headset will sometimes just quit working. It still shows up, but Teams, WebEx, Zoom - none of them are able to hear any audio from the mic, and any sound output to the thing doesn't play. (Teams says "We can't connect to your audio device. Restart your computer and join again.") This will frequently happen in the middle of a call. Sometimes if I fiddle with the default sound device in Windows, it'll start working again, and other times I have to reboot.
I've read about other folks having the second issue with Windows 11, but unfortunately I haven't found any solutions. Anyone have any idea? This is driving me nuts, and making WfH nearly impossible. Thanks!
So, trying various stuff I am not sure which step was effective. Ubuntu 20.0.4 using Cinnamon (no Gnome/KDE) on Dell XPS 9340:
rm -rf ~/.config/pulse/- Log out
- Log back in
- go to desktop settings/'sound'
- insert headphones
- Go to 'input' section
- Do microphone audio test on each available device
Headphones start working...
So after having this issue with beautiful, but already annoying, 20.04, I found a solution in another post at SuperUser. In my case what helped me was:
Use the following command to get the Audio Codec for your machine's model:
cat /proc/asound/card*/codec* | grep CodecIn my case I saw the following audio and video codecs:
Codec: Realtek ALC233 Codec: Nvidia GPU 94 HDMI/DPGo to www.kernel.org, look up the version of the codec, and get the full name of it. In my case, for
Realtek ALC233it'salc233-eapd.Create/update the
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conffile, and add this line, replacing the model with your own:options snd-hda-intel model=alc233-eapdReboot the machine.
