r/Bestbuy on Reddit: So do yall recommend the Progressive leasing?
November 14, 2023 - Absolutely not. If it’s a necesitoe and a need, I always talk about the 90 day payout option but always make sure they know how much they will be paying for an item at the end of it. I say progressive leasing is more for a need not a want.

I know this helps the store's bottom line, but I, as a salesperson, do not want to be the face of fucking over our customers. Even at the lowest amount of $300, they end up paying $706, minus the $79 fee to walk out the door with the merchandise.

It damages my reputation and I make sure to explain to customers what they are getting into before they apply for leasing. And BTW, Progressive Leasing had NO impact on a customer's credit score. They say they will send a letter to the 3 credit agencies at your request, but this has little to no effect to establishing or improving credit.

I've seen a few posts here about progressive leasing. is this something that's going to be hitting other stores too? I live in Cali, and never heard of it except for here..

Unpopular opinion, but I’m a fan of it. I signed up for a progressive lease on my engagement ring, made biweekly payments, kept track of my 90th day like a hawk through their app, and budgeted to pay it off on the check prior to the 90 day option expiring. Obviously, that’s best case scenario, and not every customer will be as vigilant around paying it off aggressively. However, you have to remember, if we are doing our job properly, building a scenario that maximizes opportunity for the customer and run the branded payment app and it’s not improved, we may have burned a customer who could not afford that tv without progressive leasing. As another poster pointed out, they then leave with a bad taste in their mouth and go to rent a center and Aaron’s and lease to lease that product anyways. When used responsibly, this can be an empowering tool for poor to moderate credit customers who want a little luxury in their life. Don’t use it like the Best Buy card, I don’t even mention the 12 month option (instead, I tell them make sure to pay the balance off prior to the 90 day mark, and download the app), and don’t use it for customers that already have the cash in hand (the way you would offer a Best Buy card so they can get the 10% back. In short, encourage people to be responsible and you’ve done the best you can

March 6, 2023 - Okay but that is literally how I explain it to customers or other associates if they ask what can/can’t be leased lmao ... That's how one of my store ASMs explained it when they introduced it. Continue this thread ... Wow our rep joked with us about repoing things. ... That’s how I explain it. ... That's awesome. Worth it if you ask me. Continue this thread ... I had one customer interested in getting a $1500 fridge with it. Progressive leasing would charge you $3400 in total for it.

So I went to lease a laptop the other day. I was told with the progressive leasing theres no payment today. But when I was reading the contract it said "$xx due at lease signing." So I when I brought it up and said "oh, so there is money due today?" The guy couldnt give me a straight answer so I walked out. I really need the laptop for my classes (and yes I know ill be paying double im not worried about that) but i just want to know if i should expect money to leave my account immediately or not? Why cant someone just answer a simple yes or no?

This is awful and I don’t wanna be to this point but anyone have experience with not paying your lease with progressive leasing because you got in over your head like an asshole? I can’t return the product so what happens if I don’t pay. Jail? Court? Collections? People coming to your house?

Thanks, and if your seeing this, make better choices then me.

r/Bestbuy on Reddit: best buy progressive leasing question
November 13, 2023 -

Hello everyone, i see a lot of negative things about progressive leasing and I just have a few questions about it. In simple terms if I pay it off within the 90 days I am only paying the original retail price + the original progessive leasing fee and if I do not pay it off within those 90 days the price is pretty much doubled and I pay that over a year or so. is that correct? If that is correct why do so many people think this is dangerous other then the doubling of price being absolutely crazy.

r/Bestbuy on Reddit: Progressive Leasing misinformation, what are my options?
March 15, 2019 -

Hello everyone I recently went to BestBuy and was told that instead of paying the $500 out of pocket for a new phone I could lease the phone around 40 something dollars a month (with option to pay it off whenever I wanted)

I thought this was a great deal and because I was a good customer at Best Buy and buy all my electronics there that's why I was offered this deal never hearing of it before

( let me clarify something my phone was 750 plus tax which came out to 800 I traded in my phone for 300 and brought the price down to 500)

So I download the app they told me about to manage payments and now the app says I owe 600 more to my phone which I just paid $81 down payment for so my total should have been $419

Now I realize I have been scammed because either Best Buy didn't know what they was talkin about ( they did mention this service was relatively new) the thing they made me sign was through a text message and believing what Best Buy said I did not read any of the print which I understand is a huge mistake on my part

I only did this earlier today. What are my options? Can I return the phone tomorrow? do any of you have experience with something like this? Would I have better experience going to Best Buy where the phone was purchased or calling Progressive Leasing?

Don't want to be ripped off $150 because Best Buy didn't inform me but it looks like that's the case for now

EDIT: the receipt in front of me says the total of the phone so I'm very confused on what changed from talking to the employee and coming home

Progressive leasing is very new to most markets, so it’s not surprising that the associate you worked with wasn’t 100% clear with how it all works. There is a $80 up front service charge for all Progressive leases that does NOT count toward the lease price of whatever you’re leasing. Obviously without having your screen in front of me, my best guess is that the $600 the App was showing you may be the $500 for the phone and $80 for that upfront charge you paid plus tax? But again, just a best guess. You can absolutely return the phone tomorrow though and get out of the lease if you’re not feeling comfortable with it. I would say a trip into the store to talk to someone in person may be worth your time. You can also contact Progressive directly obviously. Worst case you can return it and get out of the whole thing. Best of luck!

Hey guys, just an update for you all. I went to Best Buy and explained to them what happened. The manager was very nice once he was called to assist he understood where I was coming from he also explained it's a new program and hes very sorry that I got misinformed. We sorta had a small problem because after he did the return the $300 off I got from trading my phone in (s8 towards the s10e) was a 1 time thing only. He went and called someone on the phone and got me another coupon code and finished the return transaction and then I repurchased the same phone with a debit card. He told me as long as the purchase was under 5 days I would get the money back and the lease is cancelled. He gave me a receipt showing it was returned if I had any problems and he said the money should go back on the card that I did the down payment with. Everything is good to go phone is paid for $488 instead of the $670 in 90 days which is stupid and way cheaper than the $1,100+ if I paid it off in 12 months. Thanks to everyone who replied and gave me info I was very upset last night over losing a bunch of money over misinformation that's why I asked for help with this post. You guys helped me be relieved knowing that everything was gonna get fixed and I applaud you all for it 😀

November 28, 2023 -

Stupidly applied for PL and got approved for $1600, got an iPhone 15 pro max at the cricket store and didn’t realize til I got home that I was going to pay $3.2k back for this phone. My payments are $135 bi weekly for 12months (haven’t called for 90 day option). Anybody have any experience with unpaid debt to this company? Constant calls? Debt settlements? Court?

Lady at cricket made it seem like I was only paying $1600 and rushed me out the door so I was completely blind sided. “Just click this, put your info here and check these boxes”

Update 01/05/24 Returning this phone immediately! 90 day option wasn’t much better of a deal so Verizon here I come! Thank you all for the input!

That's with added interest if you pay it off in 12 months. There is an option to pay it off within 90 days and pay a lot less in interest. You can call progressive leasing if you want to do that option. You're leasing the phone so you are able to return the phone any time you feel like not paying for it anymore, you just won't get any money back that you have given towards paying off the lease.

Their website says they allow you to return and cancel at any time. Are returns allowed? To return your item, contact Progressive Leasing customer service at (877) 898-1970. Progressive will evaluate the product to determine the proper course of action. The item could be returned through the retailer you select or sent directly to Progressive. You can cancel your lease at any time. You have the right to return the items to Progressive Leasing without additional charge or penalty, and you will owe nothing further except unpaid lease-to-own costs. To cancel your lease call us at (877) 898-1970. https://progleasing.com/frequently-asked-questions/#anchor33 They have an estimator as well. It looks like if you pay it off in 90 days you may have a fee around $160 total. https://www.progressivelp.com/myaccount/onboarding/estimator Personally there's no way in hell I would pay 10% of the purchase price in financing fees but if you have poor credit that may be what will work best for you. From playing with the estimator this service is wildly predatory... Going from 90 days (3 months) to 4 months bumps your fees up from $160 to over $1200 and it just gets higher from there.

I know they got in a f*ck ton of trouble recently and had to pay a bunch of people back, so idk if I'm getting this because of that, if it's a scam, or because quite honestly I faultered on my payments when my fiance lost their job security (they were told they could transfer stores and it fell through) and due to the late fees I've literally not been able to catch up.

I'm really hoping it's legit because honestly at this point it's the only way I'll be able to catch up and pay it off in time 🥲💔

I did progressive leasing on a $2.1k pc. The total price over the course of 12 months is like $4.3k. My co-worker said he had a progressive leasing loan and he just closed his bank account and never paid. He said it didn't affect his credit and nothing happened. Has anyone ever done this? what was the amount? Did you get marks on your credit score?

Alright, so here's my situation: Yesterday my poor laptop of 4 years broke, so now I have to get a new one. Now, there was this nice 750 dollar laptop which I've been looking to get, but I don't have 750 at the moment. However, Best Buy offered to give me a progressive leasing option where I could pay the 750 in increment payments over 3 months (I live in California if that helps), so I chose that option. They told me that I wouldn't pay any interest if I pay the total cost within 3 months which I'm certain I can do, and I need a new laptop ASAP since I'm a college student. In addition, I have next to no credit score. So why is progressive leasing so controversial on this sub?

Tl;Dr: looking to buy a 750 dollar laptop throught the 3 month option for progressive leasing, which seems like I just pay in increments total to the cost of buying upfront (and I'm almost certain I can pay it off within the 3 months). So why is progressive leasing so controversial, and would it be good in my circumstances?

February 2, 2022 - Someone got denied for the card and had flat out told me he was living paycheck to paycheck and then saw the leasing and was like "So I can buy this gaming desktop with that?" and I told him it's a terrible financial decision, I'm supposed to encourage you to get it, but you'll end up paying close to double the price. More replies ... More like 3 times. I was just seeing if I could find something as good as Affirm was. I looked at what the contact would be for an Xbox X. The thing is $500 new. By the time I’d have finished paying Progressive it would have been almost $1500.
