We’ve been in a recession for over a year. What’s really coming after this?
The market makes perfect sense right now. Wealthy people have more and more wealth. If they leave it in cash the value decreases due to inflation, so they buy financial assets (and other assets) which rise with inflation. Stock prices go up because wealthy people need to park their cash somewhere and they keep piling in. This is why the market can be up even when the bottom 90% of the population is struggling to get by. The top 10% own 93% of stocks; the stock market is a reflection on how THEY are doing, not how the bottom 90% are doing. The rate cuts will increase liquidity giving the wealthy even more money to park in financial assets. More on reddit.com

Next Recession 2022: What Will It Look Like? | Morgan Stanley
In short, we are positive about the economy’s fundamentals and believe they can provide ballast in the event of a recession. Nonetheless, the bear-market bottom for stocks may still be 5%-10% away. Investors should remain patient and consider using tax-efficient rebalancing, including by harvesting losses, to neutralize their major overweight and underweight exposures. And, as we continue to emphasize, pursue maximum asset-class diversification. This article is based on Lisa Shalett’s Global Investment Committee Weekly report from June 27, 2022, “Inflation-Driven Recessions are Different.” Ask your Morgan Stanley Financial Advisor for a copy.
