r/Layoffs on Reddit: UPS Cuts 48,000 Jobs in Management and Operations
September 24, 2025 -

United Parcel Service said it has reduced its management workforce by about 14,000 positions so far this year and its operational workforce by 34,000 positions.

The company disclosed the workforce reductions for 2025 in an earnings statement to investors and analysts.

UPS said it is well positioned to navigate the coming holiday shipping season, and restructuring efforts have resulted in cost savings of about $2.2 billion so far this year.

Though third-quarter profit and revenue fell, results were better than expected. Shares rallied more than 12% in premarket trading.

r/UPSers on Reddit: UPS has no reason for driver layoffs
May 13, 2023 -

UPS gross profit for the twelve months ending September 30, 2023 was $71.21 billion which is a 3.47% decline from 2022…

However, UPS annual gross profit for 2022 was a record setting $74.152B, which was a 3.08% increase from 2021 and the highest profit UPS had ever made

UPS annual gross profit for 2021, was before 2022, the record highest profit UPS had ever made at $71.93 billion which was a 12.32% increase from 2020.

In other words 2023 would have been a record setting profit number any year besides 2021 and 2022. Those numbers also show profits are still up 9% from 2020 when people had no choice but to use us and this years profits were basically identical to 2021.

Don’t believe UPS’s bullshit. Numbers don’t lie. The only reason for driver layoffs is to try to break that 2022 record in 2024. The union needs to speak up.

If you got the lay off call this week (or know somebody that did), which department were you in? Job title (if you feel like sharing), and what district/city? I’m very curious as to who got the devastating news today. I’ve heard rumors it was 5,000 in inside sales, but 0 confirmation.

I know there was a group call about the laid off for inside sales that had 300+ ppl on the call, not sure how many ISRs are in the country. They're remote sales that got cut from the Business Development function. I know Mail Innovations got cut. I know Sales solutions got cut earlier in the year. SCS AEs got cut, GFF pricing got cut, marketing got cut. Probably district AEs and SAEs will be next, maybe international AEs as well. These are all Business Development functions. A lot of sales people are hurting due to the economy and the sales plan given by corporate. The biggest thing is sales people are competing against UPS because of DAP and other resellers like WWE and Unishippers. That Matt Guffey corporate strategy guy is an asshole to allow DAP to cannibalize its own revenue. They're basically taking revenue from sales people, and diluting it and putting it in the DAP bucket, leadership then turn around and tell Carol and investors that DAP "grew" while sales people are on the decline. No DAP didn't grow, they took money from sales resources bucket, diluting it and putting it in a new bucket. Not to mention corporate turn around and gave sales people an unrealistic quota in 2024, on top of switching us from ADV to ADR, and pointing fingers at sales people for not hitting quota in a declining economy while competing against our own company. For years and years sales managers told its sales people that they don't have to give away the farm to win business, but then they allow programs like ShipStation and Shopify to have lowest of the low UPS rates regardless of how much customers ship. The worst part is that those discounts can't even be offered by UPS sales people themselves. Many customers of UPS left the sales resources and started using UPS on these ShipStation platforms, same services same drivers, lower rates. Carol's executive leadership team are the most selfish con artists that exist in the company, they're the ones that should be laid off. That Nado Cesarone asshole sold shit ton of UPS stock at $180 per share not long ago because he knew shit was about to go down, and down if went at $129 per share today. There is a reason why so many senior managements have left this year, because Carol is running his company into the ground. Laura Lane from Public Affairs, Bill Seward from SCS Strategy, Brian Newman CFO, and a lot of middle level managers. The ones who left because they disagree with the direction of where the company is going, and lack of vision from senior leadership; and many more stayed because they lack the backbone and courage to speak up against corporate greed and self financial interest - instead of speaking up for the people that work for them, they double down on corporate nonsense because they cave in like a bitch for that paycheck. Morale for the company is at an all time low.

Who else is frustrated by these recent layoffs. I learned today preloaders are being laid off and replaced with laid off drivers because full-time employees have priority, even if they don't have seniority. Thankfully I'm not on the current list of preloaders and my shop steward said there's a little bit of a buffer with a few people lower than me on the ladder. Hopefully it doesn't reach me, but my other saving grace is I don't have a favorable job (de-bagger), so I may stay on just because of that. *L*

r/economy on Reddit: UPS to lay off 20,000 drivers, a year after agreeing to $50 an hour in a new contract.
July 9, 2025 -

Photo above – Matthew McConaughey proposes to UPS driver/girlfriend Jenna Elfman in the film EdTV (1999). This was before UPS drivers earned $50 an hour, so the motive was love, not financial gain.

Hey, Joe . . . wanna earn $50 an hour driving a delivery van? Local stuff only. No long haul, or overnight trips away from home. That’s like . . . zowie . . . $100,000 a year. Plus health and retirement plans. More than a teacher. No high school diploma needed, let alone a college degree.

Yeah . . . that was 2023. This year United Parcel Service is offering “buyouts” to 20,000 drivers. If not enough employees take the hint, terminations are sure to follow. (see link at bottom). Seems like it’s tough to make a buck in a market-based economy when your labor costs soar faster than inflation.

I wish no misfortune to befall the big-brown guys in their cute shorts. They sometimes even deliver my Amazon stuff. That may be because Amazon drivers earn $19 an hour instead of $50, and there are always Amazon driver vacancies.

Fed Ex drivers are doing even worse – average is $17 an hour. Teamsters get $22. Postal workers get $20 an hour, and you have to pass a civil service exam to prove you can read and write, don’t have a felony record, and are drug free.

Actually, I’m assuming all these drivers are drug free, and can read and write. They get the address right more than 99% of the time. Although my replacement Chase Amazon credit card appears to be lost. It was sent registered mail more than a week ago and has a United States Postal Service tracking number, but hasn’t moved since July 3rd. It's still a thousand miles away. Actually, it probably HAS moved, but whoever has it – legally or otherwise – didn’t scan it. This is why I missed Amazon Prime Day, Jeff. Your credit card didn’t arrive. I was eyeing that $69.99 SDKWDH LED therapy mask, which is guaranteed to reduce wrinkles. Who doesn't want smaller wrinkles, and bigger boobs?

Back to the UPS layoffs. So on the basis of this comparison, the United Parcel Service $50 hourly contract was a crazy outlier. Completely off the charts. I wish I’d predicted that layoffs would happen. Wait, I did, right after the contract was signed in 2023. And I pointed out that paying high school dropouts more than a teacher could be demoralizing to teachers, and tempt them to quit their violent schools for a safer career delivering packages. But they’d certainly be sorry now, if any teachers actually did quit.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

I am very biased as I am a UPS driver. If it was possible I would love for you to ride along with one of us for the day, and then tell me I am not worth my wage, (you forget my insane benefits which are more valuable than the hourly wage). This plan was in place pre COVID. And why are we the outlier? Why does Fedex and Amazon pay so little, we are all very profitable companies. But I will admit that I do see that Fedez and Amazon will drag UPS down compensation wise eventually, it should be the opposite.

UPS drivers do very well and staff up and down every year. In my area you have to work in the warehouse before getting to apply for driver jobs (and many people stick with a dawn pre-load shift even if it's short because YOU SHOULD SEE the health insurance they get. No copay, ever) I run an e-commerce warehouse and a few years back I took leave to be a drivers helper and learn a little bit more about that end of the supply chain. It is the most tedious job ever, and I say that as someone who packs boxes. The same houses, the same Tetris pile in your truck, the same tearing out your hair as you look for packages. Like Groundhog Day. I'm so happy it was only for three weeks; I could never have managed any longer. Now, at my warehouse, UPS deliveries and pickups always go off without a hitch. The next best is USPS, although they struggle with volume. FedEx depends solely on the quality of the driver. A lot of them leverage their FedEx experience to get a foot in the door at UPS. Amazon has the most shit for brains people ever, but I don't necessarily blame them. The Amazon 'pin' was in the middle of our parking lot for a while, so their system physically would not let them scan packages unless the parked the van on that pin. Then they schelpped it up to the building and dropped it against the wall. Amazon doesn't pay them enough to give a shit.

These UPS lay offs have put hundreds of family’s at a loss. Children, men, and women suffering from the corporation who chose to bring on THOUSANDS of people for peak season. People who quit good jobs to work for this company who were then laid off months later. Bringing on several new employees to lay off double. Management encourages laid off employees to WAIT for their jobs back. Months without work. I have heard rumors it was for a large bonus for the corporation. Can’t be sure but there’s very little information from higher ups and no help from an organization whose supposed to care for their employees.

The absolute worst thing in the whole scenario is the CEO comes out and makes a bold, grand declaration of 20,000 layoffs, 70 something buildings closing by June and yet not one single statement to the employees is made. UPS just hates their employees. The real question is, why doesn't UPS Senior Management communicate with their employees. Time and time again it seems as though you're told to treat your supervisors with respect and you'll get respected in return, but yet here we go, thousands and thousands of employees are writhing, wondering do they have a job? How long are they going to have a job? Are they going to have to transfer? Seems as this entire management structure is zipped up and refuses to communicate plans or thoughts. It's absolutely terrible, and this is no way to treat the people to whom are depended on for labor and effort on a daily basis for production numbers.

These are the ones I know of in the western region: ILNOR, ILHAR, ILDAN, KSLAW, KSDGE, MOBOW, CARIV, CORIF, WI520, WASTT, TXEGL, OKALT, and AZPNI. I know a little more about ILNOR and ILHAR since I cover both of those sites (TSG), but the others I can't really speak to, except to say it looks like AZPNI is happening later than the rest. If I get word on any more, I'll come back and add them here. Edited to add CASTO to the list. If anyone wants to know if their building is on the list, I can look up the mnemonic to see if there have been any facility closure tasks released for it. Edit 2, additional closures: ALDEC (Decatur), CABAY (Bay Center), CACON (Concord Center), CACOR (Cordelia Center), CASUN (Sunnyvale), CASLT (South Lake Tahoe), CAWTD (Carmel Village), CT120 (Enfield), FLCLE (Palm Harbor), FLHOL (Hollywood), GASAW (Kennesaw), IDCOE (Coeur D'Alene), INWAS (Washington), KYDAN (Danville), KYHAR (Harlan), MAKSN (Kingston), MALEO (Leominster), MASBO (South Boston), MICIC (Cicotte), MIGAY (Gaylord), MIIRM (Iron Mountain Center), MIJAC (Jackson), MILUD (Ludington), MIWIX (Wixom), MSHER (Hernando), NCCHP (Chapel Hill), NCHIG (High Point), NHLAC (Laconia), NVFAL (Fallon Center), NYCOR (Cortland), NYLOC (Lockport Center), NYLTM (NY Capital, NYNIA (Niagara Falls Center), OHCEL (Celina), OHLAN (Lancaster), OHWAD (Wadsworth), SDHUR (Huron) I'll add any more I find tomorrow, plus any from the comments that I might've missed. Edit3: Adding FLLAK (Lake City), INAND (Anderson), INBOU (Bourbon), INCRA (Crawfordsville), INMAR (Marion), LANIB (New Iberia), and TXSMR (San Marcos) to the list. Still working my way through the comments and PMs, so if I haven't gotten to yours yet, I will! Not trying to forget anyone. Edit4: NJLDH (Lyndhurst)

I keep seeing a ton of people mentioning this peak is so light and we are barely working just wait till January. I just been hearing a lot of people worried about the lay offs to come next year. Can’t drivers just bump into the building to get hours or collect unemployment? What’s there to be worried about? Anyone else hearing this often as well?

Hey all fellow upsers! I am a driver of 5 and a half years and loader for 2. For some context I am in the phoenix area. My sups are all saying we shouldn’t be worried about layoffs and to hope that enough “old heads” take the buyout lol which is a joke!! Anyway my union steward told me to not worry about layoffs due to our area and it’s a scare tactic but with the shift in volume I feel im not getting a full story here.. just posting cause I want y’all’s feedback! First time posting and just again wanting some thoughts from you guys.
