I am in the middle of the 90s era of my reading order of Gambit, (Yes I started with Uncanny X-Men & know who everyone is, Gambit became my fav & Rogue is my second) It started in X-Men 1991 #3, When Gambit offers to pull her out of the pool and she's shocked he would. This was the last issue Claremont wrote also, Idk why he was surprised they became a couple from that? From what I've read of these two it reads kinda goofy and boring? If Rogue did not have her powers, Why would Gambit like her? If this is your OTP also, Please try not to respond very angrily to this post. I see a lot of fanart of these two and I know they look very cute together but these two are both my fav x-men characters, and I just want to talk about these two normally, I'd also be ok with them just being friends as well.

What begins as an innocent flirtation and even a “challenge” in the 90’s comics really evolves to love as you move forward in the arcs. These are two characters that don’t open up to other people. Despite how toxic their relationship was at times in the books, as you read on past the 90’s you see that they really become each others “person.” Gambit seems like the cool guy trying to pick up everyone woman he meets, but I always read his charming carefree attitude as a facade. He’s a dude that comes across as carefree and promiscuous, but actually he cares a lot, and is a dude that falls in love hard (I think he’s the only Marvel character who has been married twice). I think they were cemented about 10 years ago in the comics. That was when they were both seeing other people, but they would miss each other and cross paths to occasionally help each other out. Rogue even refers to Gambit as her best friend from time to time. Nobody else can really compare to their history. …sorry for the long post.

both of the characters are loners/will isolate themselves, so when Gambit pursues Rogue and refuses to back down, i think for her thats something not a lot of people have done, causing her to fall for him for Gambit…the reasons a lot harder. but i dont think you necessarily need a reason to fall in love with someone. i think for him, he initially was just attracted, (and her being the one thing he can’t touch definitely helped) but over time he came to care for her more emotionally. it’s not a “i love her for this reason” type thing, i see it as a “i love her simply because i love being around her” i never saw their relationship as a physical thing, in fact the reason i like it so much is because i see it as two people who just have feelings for each other, who dont need to touch. for me, thats what makes their relationship great, rather than the why they love each other

November 5, 2025 - I wouldn't be surprised if he was an Anniversary character or something. Cyclops is unlucky though, I get why the other X-Men were chosen over him, but the guy needs more respect. lol More replies ... Seeing one of Gambit's playing cards in the Old Hawkeye skin's MVP animation got me so fuckin' hyped. I hope both he and Rogue are a ton of fun to use.

Hey guys. I could use some help from someone familiar with the X-Men. I haven't read literally any of their comics yet (only a couple of cameo appearances in the old Fantastic Four comics from the 1980s) but I'm familiar with the concept of the team from the films and animated series.
And now, actually, the question. Can you recommend any worthwhile stories about Rogue and Remy? I vaguely remember that there was their personal comic, but that’s where all my knowledge ends. I don't mean just their other solo comics - anything that explores the characters and especially their relationships will do - from one-shots and limited series to arcs in the "main" comic.

Well there's a lot tbh, but its spread everywhere. X-Men(1991) has a lot of these two, pretty much from #1. #24 is pretty memorable. Uncanny X-Men from around issue 280(I think) has a quite a lot of them as well. Rogue and Gambit(2018), X-Men Gold #30, and Mr and Mrs X by Kelly Thompson are brilliant.(Read these 3 in this exact order) There's a 6 part unlimited issue which released just a few weeks ago by Preeti Chibber, which is hilariously fun, where they go on a heist together. Then there's the individual Gambit minis(1995, 1999, etc) , and Rogue(1995) There is Rogue and Gambit(2023) but it sucks, basically character assassination.

Everybody else left you some fantastic recs, but I’m going to reiterate pretty much everything Kelly Thompson did: Rogue and Gambit (2018), Gold #30, Mr. and Mrs. X. They also pop up in her final Captain Marvel arc: #43-49 (it’s self-contained enough that you’re fine without reading the previous books). Also seconding Preeti Chhibber’s Gambit & Rogue mini on Unlimited. (Also advising you to steer clear of Rogue & Gambit (2023). Unless maybe you can find an unlettered version and just… enjoy the art? Lmao.)
