Getting a job at Shopify
I have applied to Shopify (twice actually) I've been working there for 4 years now and I am the engineering manager of the Ruby Infrastructure team, which has been working on making Ruby better (including YJIT, Object Shapes, Variable Width Allocation, TruffleRuby and Developer Tooling). I've found Shopify to be a great company to work for. Of course, experiences at such a large company can be wildly different, but even having access to top Ruby talent in your company Slack is worth its weight in gold. Besides we stay on latest versions of Rails and Ruby on all of our applications, so you won't end up stagnating on a predated language/framework version. I am not sure which roles we are currently advertising for, but I highly suggest you take a look at our https://careers.shopify.com website to check. We generally look for people with growth potential, and not just experience in any particular field. For example, we are not necessarily looking for Ruby/Rails developers nor do we ask you to use them in interviews. Shopify seems like a great place for Ruby/Rails developers to grow.
I love what they are doing (Shopify Engineering Blog, open source contributions, etc.) and I would love to be a part of such a company. I wonder if 2,5 years of experience as a dev is enough to give it a try (Developer position not a Senior Developer).
