You dont need to use base with that bed. You can take the pump out of the base and just put it in the floor and put the mattress on that frame. It depends on how spaced apart the slats are will determine if you need to use a bunkie board or something like that. I think there needs to be like 3" or less between the slats for you to be able to put the mattress directly on them. But i could be off on that. I think it is listed on their website. I built my son a floating bed frame that had solid plywood on top and put the mattress dirctly on that and the pump on the floor under the bed. Works great. More on reddit.com

As long as your mattress sits on a flat surface, it'll be fine. I purchased Bunkie Board off Amazon for under mine. Sleep Number started selling Bunkie Board, as well. You can, also, use plywood or those interlocking plastic pieces. Basically, you want a flat surface so your mattress contours to you...not to what it's sitting on. Even if you use a regular box spring, you will want to set it on one of those options too More on reddit.com

The Sleep Number I have can be placed on any solid platform. You can't use the steel rails you see for a box spring where there's no support in the middle of the bed. I don't know if it would work in a platform with slats, but if you used slats and a plywood top it would probably work. The problem is that the Sleep Number mattress is basically just foam and air chambers so it needs solid support to prevent it sagging in the middle.

Which companies make bed frames that fit Sleep Number adjustable bases? Apparently the FlexFit base takes up more space than other adjustable bases, so it essentially sits on top of most frames that accommodate adjustable bases. Any recommendations?
Edit: It’s been a while but here’s what I ended up doing:
Buy a freestanding bed frame that fits a mattress at least as big as the FlexFit base. Make sure it doesn’t have a center beam or anything essential underneath the bed.
The sides of the frame will have a ledge that the slats rest on. You can either set the FlexFit base very high so the bottom is above this ledge, or remove the ledge entirely. It might not be easy — I had to buy a drill, a chisel, and a mallet.
Assemble the frame around the bed.
I got a generic wooden frame from Wayfair. It took a couple tries and more work than I would’ve liked, but I made it happen.

I’d like to get our sleep number mattress low to the ground using something like the frame here: https://www.crateandbarrel.com/anneli-ivory-upholstered-queen-bed/s222893
I know the pump is in the base, so I guess I need to use the base…but can I see the base directly on the floor so that I’m not putting the base + mattress on top of the slats? I know they sell something called a bunkie board, but I’m not sure what it’s for.
Does anyone have any thought? Thanks in advance!

Hi, the hubby and I have had our sleep number bed for years now. It's been sitting on the floor since we got it, and I really want to get a bed frame/headboard for it, but don't want to buy the sleep number frame. I heard it needs to be a platform frame to support it, but I'm having a hard time finding a nice one, with a headboard that would work with it. Any suggestions?
