Hey, all! I have a Bonfire 2.0. It’s been great. It creates beautiful flames and I love the look. However, it doesn’t really radiate much heat. We’re a family of 5 and when we’re gathered around and sitting around the fire pit, it doesn’t keep us warm even with the deflector, and we’re either bringing out additional blankets or even or Mr. Buddy heater - which seems to defeat the purpose of having a fire pit. I will continue to utilize it on warmer nights when we just need some light or minimal heat. The question I have is do I purchase a bigger variation of the Solo Stove or bigger Breeo or other smokeless options, or would it be better to get a regular fire pit - like the general black round ones with stars or a fire ring or other alternatives? Any help? Thanks!

Put it in the ground. It's an absolute game changer. I made a post here, with pictures, a while back about how I buried mine. You basically make a hole in the ground with a diameter that is at least 4" larger than the Solo and as deep as the solo is tall. With it mounted that far down it radiates heat as if you were standing next to it but you'll be sitting in a chair. It radiates heat from your toes to your head. No more cold legs. When it's underground you can actually see into it (which is much more visually appealing than looking at the side of it) so the coals (the hottest part) radiate heat directly at you while you're sitting down. With it sitting on the ground and you in a chair, most of the heat is radiated over your head.

Sorry, just re-read and see you have the deflector. Is the secondary burn kicking in? Fire shooting out of all of the top holes? What type of fuel are you burning?

I don’t have a deflector on mine but I will say that not smelling like a camp fire is a huge plus with our Yukon. When we are at a friends with their pit roaring, we are spread out because it’s hot as hell which is kind of good but we still leave our clothes at the door when we get home. The Yukon is crazy hot but let’s us sit a bit closer in and we don’t smell like the campfire afterward. It’s fantastic. More on reddit.com

I totally understand because I kind of miss the gazing into the embers stage. What I do love about it- I have a bonfire is it burns so hot and completely that there is very little left over wood- it is all ash. It also goes through wood quickly. I have learned that one of the hard wood bundles from a grocery/hardware store lasts about 2 hours. For me that is a perfect amount of time and is good for a weeknight. More on reddit.com

They make it easy to start/maintain a fire. I don't think I'd want to travel with it. My personal negatives about them: - I like to sit back and look at the fire. See the burning logs/coals. You can't see that unless looking down in to it. - The heat is reflected upwards. Standing near it keeps you warm. Sitting a normal distance from a firepit doesn't provide as much heat. Yes there is a deflector you can buy for it but at that point its becoming expensive. -Cleanup. Not a deal breaker but they do require some cleanup before transporting. More on reddit.com

We are debating between a traditional $200ish fire pit and a Solo Stove Yukon for backyard use. Ideally, long term, we would enclose the fire pit with pavers to provide some safety for the kiddos but maybe not, who knows.
My main concerns are radiant heat and fuel.
How well does the deflector work for the Solo Stove?
Does it make it difficult to add more wood? Is it a pain to clean?

1000% a traditional fire pit if you're going for radiant heat and low wood consumption. I love my solo stove but it eats through wood and is crap for putting of heat unless you're right on top of it. To pay $200+ for a device to add to your $400+ fire pit is just dumb.
