Hey all,
I've been eyeing the Mesa for a while, but after reading reviews it seems that most people prefer the XL. I plan to use this on my apartment balcony but I'm worried that the XL may too big and would be a safety hazard.
Balcony dimensions: 66" x 90"; roughly 8.5 ft from floor to balcony overhang, and I plan to put it on a small table (roughly 17" x 17") that is about 1.5 ft off the ground, meaning that there would be roughly 76" of space from the overhang down to the top of the Mesa, or roughly 74" for the XL.
Listing it out this way makes me think there isn't much of a difference in terms of safety between the two and makes me lean toward the XL, but does anyone have experience with using either of these on an apartment balcony and can advise me towards one or the other? Thanks in advance!

Would recommend checking with your building bylaws to confirm you can have wood burning stoves on the balcony in the first place. I'm personally super nervous about using any kind of wood burning stove anywhere on my house or deck or balcony. They do spit out embers and while a heat mat should suffice, the potential to burn down the building is there. A propane firepit may be the better and safer bet for an apartment balcony - plus propane firepits are usually permitted in most buildings.

Another option for you is to get the Mesa XL and put a can of gel fuel in it. You get the ambiance of the Mesa and no embers, and likely ok with your apt bylaws. I do this so I can use my Mesa in a 3 season porch with a heat deflector on a side table to provide some warmth on cold days.
