Yes, they have special care instructions which is why I mentioned to you yesterday that I was nervous for you after you said you ordered all the Staub because you like the durability of cast iron. Enameled cast iron requires special care To learn more, I suggest you do some Google research to read up on the pros and cons. Read the care instructions on Zwilling. Search this sub. The biggest thing to know is that enameled cast iron is glass over iron. Two materials that expand at different rates. A couple pointers: Use wood and silicone utensils to avoid scratches Don't heat it empty, and heat it up slowly (if the bottom expands faster than the sides or if it heats too rapidly, the enamel could chip) Medium is your new high temperature, high is only for boiling Do not use steel wool to clean. Only use safe scrubbers - mine's usually clean after deglazing or a soak with Dawn Dry after washing Don't drop it, it might chip or crack If it requires so much special care, why do people use it?: the look/aesthetic, stove and oven safe, heat retention properties - great for making stews and roasts, baking bread, shallow and deep frying, and so many things. Unlike raw iron, you don't have to worry about acids stripping the seasoning or rust. My advice - keep one cocotte (the 5.5 is a versatile size), return everything else, and buy some moderately priced stainless or nonstick to replace your peeling nonstick because that isn't safe to use. Then, if you want more Staub, watch for sales and build up a collection of items that meet your needs. Answer from Rowan6547 on reddit.com

Le Creuset or Staub which is Best? - Cookware - Hungry Onion
What’s the difference between the two? Both are ECI and made in France. However, I’ve noticed that Staub is more reasonably priced. I remember Julia Child even commenting on how much Le Creuset had increased in price on one of her cooking shows. Why such a huge price gap? More on hungryonion.org

We tested Le Creuset against Staub to find the best Dutch oven. Le Creuset won, but honestly, you can't go wrong with either. What's your favorite?
Not to be rude, but this review kind of sucks. The Staub is a thicker pot and has a dark-colored interior. This thickness will take longer to heat up but retain heat better. The color will also contribute to additional heat retention. The review attributes Le Creuset's liquid retention to its lid, when in reality, it was actually just cooking at a lower temperature. When comparing these two products, you need to let the reader know what each product does best. However, this is probably impossible for this reviewer because they don't know how to test them properly. More on reddit.com

Looking for size advice for a second dutch oven
I would recommend the 7qt. I have a 5.5 LC that is a deep dutch oven (which after the fact, I can say I'm not crazy about. I prefer more surface area to the height.) The 7qt is not too big, just the right size. I can make batch as you want and freeze. For us, I think a 9qt would be "too big" / used rarely for holidays. But my 7qt is once or twice a week. Cast iron Dutch ovens. To Staub or to Le Crueset? - Page 3 - ChefKnivesToGo Old Forum Site
In general, I think Staubs are great for rougher, bigger preparations, where slower, lower heating and braising is required, or where very high-temp searing is requiring—the are better at the extremes. The lids are magnificent and really due improve heating and circulation, especially in the oven, but the pots can be a bit slower to heat and can heat a little less evenly on the stovetop at medium temps.

r/staub on Reddit: How durable are the staub cocottes really?
January 5, 2024 -

Yes, they’re cast iron. The pot itself will last forever. But what about the enamel coating?

Is this something I have to baby constantly to make them last? For example, I know even the sight of a metal utensil would scratch the Teflon coating in a nonstick pan making them unsafe/unusable.

One thing I love about my lodge skillets is how little I have to care for them and how forgiving they are. I knew enamel would come with added care compared to my lodge. But , how much do I really have to baby them?

Also,If you have “ruined” a cocotte before, how did you? Particularly, has anyone scratched the coating and how did you?

Thanks in advanced!!

This Limited-Edition Staub Cast Iron Braiser Sold Out Twice Already, and It’ll Definitely Sell Out Again
October 22, 2024 - I remember receiving the Made In 7.5-quart Dutch oven a few years ago, and after an inaugural meal — gumbo, I think — it quickly took a central place in my rotation. I still use it constantly. Well, a new contender has entered my starting lineup of cookware, and it’s an unsuspecting collab between a cookware giant and a beloved cookbook author and food blogger. Curious? I’m talking about the Smitten Kitchen x Staub cast iron braiser, which recently came back in stock after selling out twice — and it’s something you’re going to want to jump on very quickly while it’s available.
