The second line allocates a String array with the length of 1. Note that you don't need to specify a length yourself, such as:
String[] strArray = new String[1];
instead, the length is determined by the number of elements in the initalizer. Using
String[] strArray = new String[] {strName, "name1", "name2"};
creates an array with a length of 3.

For example, I have String input which will look something like "5 6 6" but I need it to be converted into an array. What is the easiest way to do this? I have messed around with .split and .parseInt but have not come to any solid conclusions. Thanks!

You're on the perfect track with .split and .parseInt but it seems that you probably took a wrong step (or missed a step) in between. .split the String into a String[] array Create a new int[] with the same .length as the String[] array from step 1 loop through all the elements in the String[] array .parseInt the current array element of the String[] array to an int and place that new int in the int[] array from step 2 In a short code snippet: String text = "5 6 6"; String[] splitText = text.split(" "); // Step 1 int[] numbers = new int[splitText.length]; // Step 2 for(int i = 0; i < splitText.length; i++) { // Step 3 numbers[i] = Integer.parseInt(splitText[i]); // Step 3.1 } That's all that needs to be done, but there should also be some Exception handling in Step 3.1 (the .parseInt line should be wrapped in a try...catch statement to account for parsing errors).

Also notice the "power supply " has two separate words. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Can you use a different delimiter than a space in the input string? E.g. String str = "Processor, Mouse, Power Supply, Phone" That's probably the simplest way to achieve this if you have multi-word phrases in your input.
