Anyone can order using the Target app or website and get free same-day delivery. Which means more people ordering and more orders for us. However, it also means any Tom, Dick or Sally can order and say they never got their order.
Word of advice, always call if you get no reply from the customer via text to make sure the number is good. If It’s a bad number, let HQ know. Upon delivery always knock on the door.
Since more and more are using this service more frequently we will encounter people who say they never got their delivery. Always cover your ass as much as possible!
It couldn’t be more obvious that Target bent Kamau over and stuck it to him. All of the advertisements says NOTHING about Shipt, and instead they all imply that everyone gets free same day delivery, by a Target worker bringing them Target items. This leads customers to think that Target employees are delivering their items, and they invariably think that we are being paid actual Target wages. While Target (not Shipt. Target) exploits the independent contractor base of the Shipt subsidiary business.
Why is it exploitation? Because we are all working for tips. And not only has Target dropped all mention of Shipt in their ads promoting their service, they’ve also dropped all of Shipt customer’s ability to use the Target app (instead, you must have 360 to use the Target app - Shipt is billed as a side benefit). Combine this with their complete removal of the popup screen in the app asking customers to rate and tip, and it’s clear that they don’t want to push delivery customers to tip, or rate.
Without tips, this job cannot be done in any profitable way. And since the 360 rollout, the orders have been an absolute disaster in just about every metro. This last delivery hour, four prepaid Target orders came in. Two chock full of women’s clothing, and the other two were obviously $35 orders. All four for brand new customers on my map. It’s been like this for ten days now, and it’s getting worse every day as they sign up more people onto 360, all of whom seem to be under the impression that we get full Target wages.
I am DONE with this crap. Seven thousand plus shops, and of all the changes, this one will be the one that destroys Shipt as we all know it. I refuse to take these orders. And for every bundle that I take because they have an excellent customer attached; they’re all getting a nice note included in their bags that explains what in the heck is going on. Because Target 360 is exploitative crap for all of its shoppers without the service promoting tips. This is a step even DoorDash hasn’t gone to; even they understand that their $2 base pay is such garbage that it’s necessary to prod customers to tip their service workers.
As long as the Target app no longer gives customers a forced popup to rate and tip, I will no longer help Target prepaid orders for new customers. The tip rate is absolutely abysmal; nothing near the 50% or so that was standard before 360 was introduced. And every new customer that I service as part of a preferred bundle is getting that prod to tip in the form of a preprinted letter that clearly explains we are getting six dollars to do their order and that we are paying our own gas. That they don’t have to tip, but if they don’t that they will experience a never ending circle of shoppers that ends in their orders getting delayed, for the simple reason that no one can be expected to do a half hour of work and pay delivery expenses, for six whole dollars.
Target, what you’ve done is unprofessional and immoral with what you know shoppers are paid. You need to bring back mandatory popup screens, and you need to make it far more clear that your delivery workers are NOT Target employees. Until that happens, it appears it’s on us to educate the new customers so we can feed ourselves.
