I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 9 that I recently bought and I'm considering to upgrade to Windows 11 but I've read online that there's a big battery issue reported by users with laptops, a downgrade from 16 hour battery life to approximately 10 hours for someone with the same laptop as me (Was posted a couple months ago).

Laptop specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-1185G7

  • RAM: 16GB

  • GPU: Integrated Intel Iris Xe

Can anyone with the same laptop or with a Thinkpad laptop in general that upgraded to windows 11 confirm if this issue still exists.

Hi u/heisterINVZ I can definitely confirm that my X1 Carbon with windows 11, regarding Battery Life... SUCKS. I have dual boot with Linux (ubuntu) and Windows, and I get around 15-16 hrs of battery life on Ubuntu Vs 8-ish in best case scenario (without an intensive use of Teams nor pycharm or office neither... ). I have investigated every tip and trick available as well as played with all the services and optimisations that you can imagine without any luck.... Windows 11 + Lenovo X1 Carbon gen 9 is NOT recommended if you really need good battery performance. Either get back to Win 10 or go for Ubuntu.... Maybe someone at u/lenovo can share something usefull.... My specs are like yours but with 32 GB of Ram ...

I just purchased this X1C gen 9 i5-1135g7, 16gb ram FHD screen with windows 11, 3 weeks ago, but i am only getting ~4 hours of battery life on my device running onenote and chrome with 3~5 tabs open.... Not sure if this is a hardware battery problem or the software?

I want to buy a used ThinkPad X1 Carbon 14in Laptop | i7-6600U 2.6GHz | 16GB | 256GB | W10 and wonder if it can be upgraded to Windows 11 without any hacks because of the hardware. I don't know if the laptop is 6th generation.

Official Windows 11 support, starts with an Intel 8th processor or AMD Ryzen 2000 series. Otherwise, you need to use "hacks" to install it. There's no other way around it. Fortunately, by hacks, it's just downloadind the ISO of Win11 and install it on a USB with Rufus and enable the installation with unsupported hardware. You probably won't have updates to major versions automatically (i.e when Win 11 24H2 comes out) and eventually a new version won't be installable anymore. If you're onto a Carbon, get a gen 6 or newer and stick to 16GB of RAM or more when available (gen 9) because RAM is soldered. i7-6600U means it's an X1 Carbon Gen 4. Cheers!

February 6, 2024 - Yes I saw that, which surprised me because Windows 11 only supports 8th generation onwards doesn't it? I was looking at some a bit older than that as well though. I know most older hardware will run windows 11 - with the right instal - but have heard some machines won't for some reason or other.
