7 Early Warning Signs of Thyroid Issues - Associated Endocrinologist, P.C.
March 11, 2024 - With too little thyroid hormone circulating in the body, the metabolism slows, and the body converts food to energy at a slower rate. Consequently, patients with hypothyroidism often gain weight rapidly without altering their diet. Another common warning sign of thyroid issues is problems with vision or the eyes. This symptom can present in both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism patients, though it is slightly more common in patients with an underactive thyroid.
Hypothyroid Men symptoms
Had all of those symptoms myself (29 yo male) with the exception of the heart issues. However, I did have serious trouble breathing while I was at my worst, which occasionally would cause palpitations. I also had anxiety and put on weight. My recovery has been extreeeeeemely gradual on T4 alone, but has been significant. I'm still not 100% yet, but I'd be interested to hear if that lines up with what other men experience. I've found GPs and endos have less experience with young men than with middle aged women. I still have very bad fatigue (and eyebrow twitching issues, now that you mention it) but every other complaint has gone away after 12 months. The last one to go has been the 'brain fog' (the slow speech/train of thought you mentioned - I also had difficulty concentrating and maintaining eye contact). That particular issue improved very gradually. More on reddit.com

More on reddit.comAny men in their 20s with hypothyroidism?
I was diagnosed at 19. The brain fog was the worst since I was going to college and couldn't think for shit. My initial TSH, when diagnosed, was around ``8 and my levo dosage is currently 50mcg. The best way to treat along with taking the Levo is to make sure to have a clean eating regimen and consistent exercise routine. It took me a while to figure it out and from experience it's different for everyone. More on reddit.com
What were the first symptoms you noticed?
All above symptoms, except the weight gain. I had brain fog, woke up in a confusing about what to do. Words would go away, could not recall everyday items and people. My boss made fu of me, knowing that I was suffering. I was terrified. My primary doctor refused to help. My psychiatrist just wanted to give ne anti depressants. I refused. Finally, my rumatoligist tested me for everything, 7 vials of blood. I am off water pills ,blood pressure medication and arthritis pills. More on reddit.com
