How do we keep phone number on new line and phone
Right now, our family plan has an option to trade in an old phone and receive a free iPhone 15/iPhone 15 Pro. We have to pay the sales tax on it/etc but the phone itself is free.
The salesperson said the deal might not last for very long and he wasn’t sure when it would go away. I have an iPhone 11 that is 3.5 years old, and it works despite having a somewhat crappy battery. How rare is this deal? Should I take advantage of the deal or wait until I really need a new phone?
Also how is this beneficial to Verizon?
I paid off my iPhone 13 Pro after 30 payment installments last month. I called Verizon Customer Service today to change phone plans because I was on the Play More plan for those 30 payment installments due to the contract. I wanted to change to the Unlimited Plus plan because it was about maybe $10 cheaper and pretty much exactly the same plan. They said the Play More plan was a legacy plan so they could definitely make the change for me.
Then, after I changed the plan, the rep asked if I was interested in a limited time promotion where I would receive a free iPhone 15 Pro (256 GB). From what she told me, here was the promotion and all its stipulations (or lack thereof):
It would be a completely free phone. I'd just pay the sales tax ($100)
I would NOT need to be under contract for any of it. No contract to be under Verizon's plans for any period of time
My monthly phone bill would remain roughly what it would be now, give or take a couple bucks
She mentioned something about how I've been a Verizon customer for about 11 years now and that has something to do with it
She said this was a Customer Service only promotion and that I might not find this promotion in an actual store
I would not have to turn in my current iPhone to Verizon. It's still mine
She did the whole contract, sent me the bill, and said the bill will have a bunch of expensive numbers but the promotion team will deduct everything so it matches what she said which is that I'll be paying the sales tax and just keep paying my regular phone bill.
I looked over the contract prices but I didn't accept it right then and there. The information from the rep was coming in kind of quick and I started getting that gut feeling where you feel like you might be getting scammed. So I said I'd call back in a few days to accept the promotion if it's still there.
I'm a big believer of "If it's too good to be true, it isn't." And this deal seems just like that. Has anyone else run into this absurd deal for customers for 10+ years? Does Verizon just give out free iPhones for their loyalty customers? Any insight into this promotion would be appreciated
EDIT: I forgot to include that I told the Rep that I would think about it and call back later in the week if I was interested. The Rep said that they were willing to call me personally the next day. I asked if I could just call them back and if they had a number. They said there was no direct line to them. I assume the Rep wanted to call me back so they would be the one who got the credit for the sale on their stats. This seems like a situation where a Rep was withholding information to secure a sale and was drawing up a contract quickly to get it done
