Video Podcast Equipment: Everything You Need for a Video Podcast Setup | Castos
August 11, 2025 - XLR mics offer better sound quality and flexibility but require additional equipment like an audio interface. Very important. Editing allows you to refine content, fix errors, and enhance video and audio quality. Many podcasters do, especially if using high-quality microphones.

Video Podcast setup - is this all?

The comment about lighting is important.

Unless you are going to have someone filming who is going to be actively mixing, I would go for an audio interface and not a mixer. Mixers almost all record to a single stereo track. This is fine for a situation where you pan one channel left and the other right, but essentially mixers are for music recording.

For podcasts or dialog, where you will want separate control of channel audio for post, you should go for an audio interface. And if you are going for dynamic mics, which I think is the right decision, a lot of entry-level interfaces won't have enough clean gain. The cheapest I would consider would be the Audient Evo 4.

What is the best Podcasting Tech Equipment?
If you are truly new to this you are going to have to temper your expectations and dial down the complexity. Stage 1: Master your DAW. Learn how to capture, process and edit recordings. This alone takes quite a bit of time. Especially if you’re trying to incorporate musical (instruments) as an element. There is mixing, mastering and many other things to learn. Stage 2: Once your abilities in your DAE are fine tuned move onto finding better audio hardware for your environment and budget. There are many different ones with different profiles which suit certain applications. Vocal mics aren’t going to work as well as one that is recording an instrument. Stage 3: Once you’ve got your audio production up to your personal standards you would need to sort out your storage requirements and backup solutions for the projects you plan to produce. Stage 4: With all that in place you will then need to master a video editing application like Premier or DaVinci resolve. Like the DAW above you’re going to want to fully understand the software and basic editing principles before you make things complex with multiple cameras and angles. Stage 5: Now that you’ve got all that in place you can finally begin to look into video hardware. Cameras, switchers, lenses and lighting setups. More on reddit.com

Podcast Equipment Guide: What I Recommend After 500 Episodes
Reliability: I want reliable, time-tested equipment, not fancy new features · Hardware > Software: I want solid, physical buttons, not a finicky touch-screen interface ... prioritize the recording environment over the gear itself, because a basic setup in a good recording environment will beat expensive gear in an untreated space every time. You don't need to spend a lot of money to get a great-sounding podcast.
