For it to work online, you need to set the zip code. Some Visa gift cards, in particular Vanilla, no longer offer that ability. Basically, mostly usable in person. Visit the gift card's website and register the card. If you're able to, then you may be able to set the zip code. Assuming you're able to set the zip code, still might not work if the biller matches name too. In that case, use Gift Card or some variant for the name when checking out. Might work. If the biller also matches street address, probably out of luck. Few, if any, open loop (Visa / Mastercard) gift cards allow updating address anymore. Easier yet, use it in person at the supermarket or big box store. May be able to buy store and game gift cards that way. Or to reiterate, just buy stuff in person you normally would anyways. Check to see if a PIN number is required when trying to use. Some visa gift cards are a pain in the ass to use. I had a visa egift card, I activated, print to pdf the activation, then a week later tried to use, but I couldn’t. I finally called the first thing on a Saturday morning. They said it had to be activated first. I already did that…ugh! They reset it, I activated again. They suggested waiting 24 hours before using. I was able to add it to my Amazon account.
