How do we know dinosaurs were real or that paleontologists haven't just made it up all this time? : r/Paleontology
February 18, 2019 - ... They probably existed, but yes you're right that we can't know for sure. The bones found aren't actual bones, it's just imprints of something. That something could just as well be plants, birds, or just rocks randomly formed in a way, so we can't be sure.

6 days ago - Dinosaurs are represented on every continent by both extant species (birds) and fossil remains. Through most of the 20th century, before birds were recognized as dinosaurs, most of the scientific community believed dinosaurs to have been sluggish and cold-blooded.

Yes. Dinosaurs are real. Every other theory is just as stupid as thinking the earth is flat. There would be absolutely no reason for any government to make up dinosaurs Conspiracy theories cannot work because too many people are involved. Think about it, every Paleontologist, Paleobiologist, Paleoartist and museum staff around the earth had to constantly be keeping a lie, rendering their jobs useless. You can't keep this a secret. Any conspiracy that turned out to be true was planned by a very small group of people. If you understand just how incredibly unlikely it is that it's a hoax, Feathers, bones, foot imprints become the proof, but some people are too stupid to see it. More on reddit.com
How do we know dinosaurs were real or that paleontologists haven't just made it up all this time?
A lot of the fossils you see in museums etc, are indeed replicas. They originals are often too valuable, and fragile to just leave lying about for 5 year old Timmy to squirt his juice all over. Whilst I am resisting the urge to ridicule you, on reflection this is a fair enough question. Taking everything on face value, I personally can't say for sure if I've ever seen an actual dinosaur fossil with my own eyes. I have seen their footprints in very old rock however. A bigger question would be "what's to be gained from making it up?" More on reddit.com

Creating a Dinosaur Like in Jurassic Park Is Possible — True or False? - Futura-Sciences
1 month ago - However, some approaches—such as genetically modifying birds or creating dinosaur-inspired chimeras—leave a small opening for alternative forms of “re-creation.” But these would never be true dinosaurs, only modern approximations. Jurassic Park may have fueled collective imagination, but it remains fiction…though rooted in fascinating scientific insights that reveal both the power and the limits of modern biology. It is also important to remember that, in reality, dinosaurs never fully disappeared.

If an excavation reveals dinosaur fossil bones that aren't arranged as they were when the animal was alive, palaeontologists use knowledge of anatomy and comparisons with other animals to piece together the skeleton. If we can identify similar features in living animals, whose biology we can study in real ...

Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event
1 week ago - While this was occurring, modern birds were undergoing diversification; traditionally it was thought that they replaced archaic birds and pterosaur groups, possibly due to direct competition, or they simply filled empty niches, but there is no correlation between pterosaur and avian diversities that are conclusive to a competition hypothesis, and small pterosaurs were present in the Late Cretaceous. At least some niches previously held by birds were reclaimed by pterosaurs prior to the K–Pg event. Scientists agree that all non-avian dinosaurs became extinct at the K–Pg boundary.

Although there are about 668 names of dinosaurs, there are perhaps only 55 different “kinds” of dinosaurs. Furthermore, not all dinosaurs were huge like the Brachiosaurus, and even those dinosaurs on the ark were probably “teenagers” or young adults. Ancient historians and writers clearly believed creatures like dragons were real.

When Did Humans First Discover Dinosaurs? | HISTORY
Historically speaking, this wasn’t an unusual claim. Although researchers didn’t start to understand what dinosaurs were until the 19th century, stories of humans finding the bones of “dragons” or other large creatures go back centuries.
