If you want to make top dollar, your best best bet is a music specific marketplac, Reverb being the most notable example (chicago based company too!). If you just want to get rid of it fast, you can take it to a guitar store like Chicago Music Exchange or Guitar Center. They will likely offer you around 50% of what they price it at when the go to re-sell it. A good middle ground would be to list it on Reverb or Marketplace a little below market value and it will likely move quickly. If you want to post some info on the make and model (and ideally pictures), I'm happy to provide some more specific recommendations.

First, I'm new to r/Guitars but I think this is an appropriate question for this platform. I have no doubt that I will be told in no uncertain terms if I am wrong. :-) I have an old 70's Gibson Explorer (white and in excellent condition), and a mint condition Takamine acoustic electric, and the plan is to sell them and get a new Martin. I've never sold a guitar before, and I'm asking you for your advice on the best platform to sell these guitars. Please let me know what you think. Thank you!

If you are selling on your own and not through a consignment retailer, Reverb is the safest choice. Under no circumstances accept payment off the Reverb system, it is likely a scam and removes all protections. On services like Craigslist, make yourself aware of scam techniques. Third party payments or shipping destinations are huge red flags, for example. It can be very common for a high percentage of contacts to be scam attempts.
