The inside ring measures 34¼". The outer ring measures 50". At first, I thought we would need 3 layers, but Hubby really didn't think so. I figured if we did, we can just go buy some more blocks. Around the perimeter, we filled it in some dirt and added grass seed. After having several fires in our new fire pit.

February 18, 2017 - Looks good OP, I def appreciate the amount of work you put in but it looks like a pita to arrange a proper wood set up for the fire, it would suck trying to clean out the ashes and you can't poke and play with the fire while its burning. the vent looks like a good idea though. ... The foil tube vent may last a year perhaps two. ... You created a Venturi , cool stuff. I will be stealing this idea ... This may have already been addressed, but are those heat bricks? Haven't figured out how you got this under $50 if they are

Answer (1 of 6): The other answers are pretty good ideas. Have you considered the pre-mades? They’re cheap-o steel but with a couple of heavy coats of firebox paint on everything, then a box of refractory mortar, you could line the inside of the bowl and have the outside protected from heat, ...

February 23, 2021 - Several years ago we built a fire pit for our backyard for around $50 just using blocks from our local home improvement store. It is actually the most popular post on my blog because it’s thrifty and super easy to build. Here’s a link to the DIY Fire pit post. Last fall we went on our annual vacation to the family mountain homestead. One source of entertainment for us has been building a fire in the evenings. r/camping on Reddit: Firepit on the cheap suggestions?
December 20, 2023 -
Just found out that at a BLM destination I have plans to go camping at requires fires to be "contained or elevated." I would rather try to use a portable fire pit or something else. But I need something I can get at a store like walmart, rei, bass pro shops... so I don't have to wait for shipping during this holiday season.
I also am a little short on cash after buying a new tent.
Any suggestions on a cheap, easy way to elevate my fire?
